the problem is a sensor in the transmission changing ratios so run the fault codes and check the problem
suspect that wiring or a TR ( transmission ratio) sensor is going faulty

the usual culprits of this issue are the liftgate switch or the flipper glass switch. very common issue on that style jeep. what happens is over time the metal holding that switch together weakens and the switch begins to come apart. if you have a bad one sometimes you can push it back together and recrimp it somewhat. im sure it is not a cheap part from jeep. check em out and see if thats your issue. on my old one i replaced the headlight switch and the interior light relay before i found the real culprit!! you might even find a youtube vid on this very subject. good luck

Hey Dennis,
Have you checked the lube level in the read differential? If its good, you have a wheel bearing going bad. To replace it, you will need to remove the axle.. This is not a hard fix, but you have to have the ALL the tools and you MUST put the rear end up on jack stands..DO NOT use a jack to hold the rear end up.. IF you are not very mechanically inclined, please take this to a qualified professional..

dome light issue is usaully the rear lifgate switch coming apart. and yes this would drain the battery if left unnoticed for a while. you can also pull the dome light relay under the kick panel on the passengers side...good luck

if your front shafts are the u joint type i bet one of them is bad. it will cause a kind of twitching feeling and binding while turning if they fail.

Check 15A FUSES 18 and 21 in the power distribution center, the A/C compressor clutch relay, and A/C CLU CTRL output (DK BLU/RED wire) from PCM.

so vast books on them. huge by country (market)
you can not swap cluster willly-nilly, due to odometer laws
if you read the cluster page,(SM) it told you that
SM = service manual.
and yes, cluster runs on a network, all GC are.

if you had read the cluster chapter it told you
how to do the cluster self test diagnosis(methods)
costs 0 bucks 0 tools.
so if that passed, you scan the PCM
to see if there are no communication errors to the cluster.
no cluster can work on a DEAD NETWORK
just like dead WIFI, same same. deal.

you failed both steps; guessing here, is not possible.

I doubt its a short. a short to power would mean something is getting power besides through the fuse and your battery would die. I short to ground would cause the fuse to blow. my guess would be some device that is controlled by this fuse is malfunctioning. if you can try and unplug devices like the radio amplifier and see if the noise is removed.
