Question about 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
On occasion my 97 lumina will develop a valve or lifter tick (not a knock) and have an extreme loss of power. it happens about once or twice a month...it has 109,000 miles on it but has been maintained...any ideas?
What this means is either one or more of your lifters is begining to fail. they are hydraulic and what that means is that oil from the pan flows into them which allows them to expand. seeing that it's not a constant problem rules out being a cam lobe that is worn out. a l;oss of power is due to an itermittant miss due to the fact that the lifter does'nt open the valve on your intake side to allow fuel to go to that cylinder. your going to have to replace the lifters and because of that a top end rebuild is required.
