Question about Ford Thunderbird
I have a 1988 Thunderbird 5.0 V8. I was driving to the store the other day and all of the sudden my brake pedal became extremely stiff and resistant yet the brakes still work. But Also now my car idles extremely high and it gains speed going uphill in reverse without touching the pedal. Any idea what could be wrong?

Sounds like rust build up on the rotors, this is a common problem with after market rotors,or it is a squealer tab and they squeal to warn you before damage is done to the rotors when brake pads are 2/3 worn down.have a brake inspection done.

When this happens the problem is most likely the multi-funtion switch aka turn signal switch. Check to see if the 3rd brakelight comes on when the brake pedal is pushed. If so replace the MFS. The 3rd brakelight in late 80's fords bypasses the turnsignal switch.

check your throttle body make sure all the springs are connected. your throttle body may be nasty inside and may need cleaning, it may be getting stuck. Throttle cable could be sticking or disconnected (there are two one pulls and one returns to idle IIRC)
also you should really search www.tccoa.com and become a member there if you are not already.

You might want to google recalls on the internet.

I remember one such on that or the F-53 chassis.
