Engine Cranks But Does Not Run
Circuit/System Description
This Engine Cranks but Does Not Run is an organized approach to identify a condition which causes the engine to crank but not start. This diagnostic directs the technician to the appropriate system diagnosis.
This diagnostic assumes the system voltage levels are adequate for starter motor operation. Refer to Battery Inspection/Test , and Engine Cranks Slowly . Fuel level and fuel quality should be determined for correct diagnosis.

J 26792 HEI Spark Tester


Crank the engine for up to 30 seconds. Observe the Engine DTC information with a scan tool.

If any of the following DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle to diagnose those DTCs P0201-P0208, P0230, P0335, P0336, P0340, P0403, P0404, P0601, P0602, P0603, P0604, P0606, P0607, P060D, P062F, P0641, P0651, P0685, P0689, P0690, P1516, P2610.

Ignition OFF for 90 seconds, determine the current vehicle testing altitude. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool MAP Sensor parameter. Compare the parameter to the Altitude Versus Barometric Pressure table. The MAP sensor pressure parameter should be within the specified range indicated in the table.

If the reading is not correct for your altitude, diagnose the MAP sensor. Refer to DTC P0106 .

Install a J 26792 . Crank the engine for 15 seconds. Spark should be observed from the Spark Tester.

If spark is not observed refer to Electronic Ignition (EI) System Diagnosis .

Important: Additional DTCs may set when using the fuel pump output control.
Command the fuel pump ON and OFF. Fuel pump should energize when commanded ON and De-energize when commanded OFF

If the fuel pump does not respond refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .

Turn OFF the ignition. Install the CH-48027 . Turn ON the ignition and command the fuel pump ON while observing the CH-48027 . Refer to Fuel Pressure Gage Installation and Removal . The fuel pressure should be between 384-425 kPa (55-61 psi).

If the fuel pressure is not within 384-425 kPa (55-61 psi), refer to Fuel System Diagnosis .

Inspect for the following conditions:

Compare the actual engine coolant temperature to the ECT parameter.

Air filter and air intake system for restrictions and obstructions

Test the fuel for contamination. Refer to Alcohol/Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis .

Inspect the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Inspection .

Test the exhaust system for restrictions. Refer to Restricted Exhaust .

Engine mechanical conditions such as worn timing chain gears, low compression, etc.--Refer to Engine Compression Test .

    Oh , gremlins ha ha ha . That can be a very difficult problem to track down , even for a shop with hi tech scan tools etc... Your vehicle has so many electronic control modules on board ,an they all share information on a serial data communication network . You could have a intermittent wiring issue ,power or ground going to anyone of them bring down the circuit that can cause a no start condition ! The first thing I would check if you brought it to my shop would be hooking up a scan tool to see if it could talk with all modules !

Third gear clutch pack worn out ! Your best bet is have check out at the transmission shop ! May have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , shift solenoid .

How to drain old gas from 2009 dts cadillac


Disconnect hose from fuel pump, place hose into container and turn on the ignition - that will turn the fuel pump on and get the gas out.

I woud have suggested that you siphon it but most newer cars do not allow you to stick a hose down the tan refill pipe to do so.

Do you mean (FTP) FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR IF YES THEN ITS MOUNTED ON FUEL SENDING UNIT.
THEN YOU HAVE PRESSURE SENSOR ON FUEL RAIL THAT MEASURES FUEL PRESSURE.

thier is a 1inch round rubber connector between the plentum and the throttle body it has a big round clamp on it start the car and spray starting fluid around that rubber and i gurantee you your engine rav up that mean thier is a crack in that hose it is easy to replace cadillac are famous for that hose to crack and make your cadillac run like ****

Stuck eldorado key in DTS ignition now car won't start


Make sure your steering wheel isn't locked. Sometimes a key won't turn until you jiggle the wheel while trying to turn the key.
