How do I time a 96 Mazda Protege from scratch


With out distributor in set engine to TDC top dead center, then set your distributor to #1 cyl one on top closest to front of car, and insert with a slight turn make sure your still lined up with #1 plug stud in dist cap then snug bolts start engine and using a timing light advance 10 degrees on your harmonic based off your timing marks on timing cover (may need two people)

makers recommend "when belt shows signs of wear" yeah right...
change any belt on any car at 60k/6years,that is, if you do not want any VERY LARGE BILLS.

this is usually a very simple repair under the hood behind the light fixture there will be a twist out plug depending on the model of the protege you may have to remove the battery and some other smaller brackets to gain access
