The problem is that you are guessing what the problem is. You have a high-end Cadillac Escalade. Take it to a dealership, as they have the factory diagnostic equipment to correctly determine what single component is causing the problem.. Your problem is almost certainly one of the dozens of electronic sensors although 'acting up' is a pretty broad spectrum to guess.

hook up a gas pressure gauge to the schrader valve. should be 50-60psi. If it doesnt have any, check relays, fuses. When you replaced the fuel pump you should have checked for 12V to the pump to confirm it was bad. I am assuming you did this. If not its worth checking again. If you dont have 12v its probably a fuse, relay, or wiring problem. Possibly bad ground?

That is a tough pump to service in that model but you may need to have one more look at it and do a possible replacement again...these are not good numbers high and low.

SOURCE: the fuel pump pumps but on start up it dies

REPLACE FUEL FILTER IF IT HAS BEEN A WHILE.ALSO THE FUEL PUMP RELAY.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE.IT SHOULD BE 35 - 45 PSI. THE 4.9 ENGINE FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 50 -60 PSI.IF FUEL PRESSURE IS GOOD.SCAN IT CHECK THE EGR VALVE / THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR / THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL / ALSO A FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR OR INJECTORS WILL CAUSE PROBLEM.CHECK ALL ELECTRICAL WIRE CONNECTIONS TO THE IGNITION COIL AND DISTRIBUTOR.

A 460 engine that acts like its not getting enough fuel. Will start but runs as if only on half the cylinders missing badly or such.

Check your running fuel pump pressure. If (as I suspect) it's too low, first try changing your fuel filter. After changing the filter, recheck the running fuel pump pressure. If still low, check you fuel pump pressure regulator. If OK, you may need a new fuel pump.

Also probably would be a good idea to replace you air filter.

Good luck!

Starting problems

Dirty fuel filter or faulty fuel pressure check valve which is located on your fuel pump sending unit. Try this test, turn the ignition on for 10 seconds (engine not running) then turn it off for 5 seconds and turn it on again then try to start the engine after 10 seconds. This will re-pressurize the fuel lines to start the engine, the fuel injectors need 62-65PSI to have them start the engine. Anything less then that and you'll have starting problem.
If it start's right up, then your ether have a fuel pressure check valve gone bad or a fuel leak at your fuel pressure regulator which is also common, but if your engine is still running 100% then i'll lean towards check valve or dirty fuel filter.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter, a dirty fuel filter will cause fuel restriction that may just be enough to the fuel pressure below 62PSI upon cold starts and a dirty fuel filter will cause the fuel pump to fail early in it's life.
Thank you for using Fixya and goos luck.

WHEN I START MY ESCALADE IT JUST CRANKS BUT WILL NOT START, BUT WHEN I TRY THE SECOND START IT STARTS NO PROBLEM. WHEN STARTED IT SEAMS LIKE IT HAS LOW POWER

Get in the car and turn the key on, but do not start the engine. Do you hear the fuel pump running? After it runs for a few seconds, try to start the car. If it starts every time, then the symptoms you describe combined with the test indicate a failing fuel pump. Sometimes you can get codes from the cars computer which also provide some indication of what's failing. It could also be the fuel pressure regulator on the injector fuel rail
