Hotwire is the movies - buy a key and cylinder with out the [chip] security setup from ignition will have no start -- because if you could bypass or "hotwire" wouldnt need keys or security

SOURCE: i have a 1998 s10 chevy pu. 2.2. the security

if the security light is on, that means the system is failing and shutting the fuel off to the injectors. If it doesn't have a chip, it probably runs off the transponder in the plastic part of the key. This is very common on GM vehicles. Check out this link for info and opinions to fix this yourself. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Unplug the turn signal relay from the fuse box and start you engine. Does it still make that noise?
If yes... Put the relay back in, that is not the problem.
If No...Then the relay could be bad, replace it!

The dealer is right...the 89 firebird did not come with a chipped key antitheft system. You should never have had a key with a chip to begin with.

Security light let want let my 98 bonneville start

The security light picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

Means there is a problem with the chip in the key or the security system on the car. The sensor in the lock reads the chip in the key.
