Question about 1998 Dodge Ram
Turn the key position to run and listen for the pump. Sometimes it’s best to take off the gas cap to listen but you can usually hear it. If nothing then check the fuse and make sure it’s ok. If it’s fine then you are likely right but you should check for power at the pump with a voltmeter to make sure. What makes you think you need to replace it.

U NEED TO CHECK THE FUEL PUMP AND AURO SHUT DOWN RELAY.THEY ARE IN THE UNDERHOOD FUES & RELAY CENTER.U CAN SWITCH THEM 1 AT A TIME WITH A/C RELAY.IF THAT DOES NOT WORK U MAY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE PCM

There is likely a fuse and a relay. The relay is usually under the hood in a black plastic box along with other relays. The fuse is usually near by. Look under the lid of the box as the components are labeled there. Use a test lamp that says computer safe to check the power at the fuse when an assistant turns the key on. The light should come on for a few seconds and then turn off. You may have a failed fuel pump that is causing the fuse to blow. IF replacement of the fuel pump is nessecary, the cargo box will have to be removed (easier than removing fuel tank). ONLY replace with a complete fuel pump module as pump only replacements have a high failure rate. I know, I had to replace twice before getting the complete unit.

Today's vehicles have the fuel pump located inside the fuel tank unlike the vehicles of 25 years ago.
You will need to be able to find the test port on the fuel rail to bleed off any pressure still in the system. It is a Schrader valve and looks like a tire valve stem. Put a rag or towel over the port and depress the center pin to bleed off. Do not do this near any flame or open fire!!!!!!
Make sure you have a new pump assembly handy, and the less fuel in the thank the better.
There are straps that hold the tank in place to the underside of the truck. You will want to soak that hardware with some good penetrating oil like WD-40 or PB Blaster and let it sit.
Once that is done, you will want to have something like a floor jack or other support device to help lower the tank down once it is loose from the truck. Could also have a helper (one on each and) to do this.
When lowering tank, be aware of fuel lines and the harness for the pump so they are not damaged by the weight of the tank.
When the tank is low enough to access them, you can unplug the harness and disconnect the lines from the pump. Lines have a "button" of sorts to depress and release them.
Usually there is a circular metal ring that secures the pump assembly into the tank. Using an appropriate tool, rotate this ring CCW till it can be lifted out.
You can now remove the pump/sender assembly from the tank. BE CAREFUL though doing this so you do not damage the float assembly.
Once you have the assembly out, in some cases the pump is removed and new one installed on the sender. Others the complete assembly is replaced and installed in the reverse order as of what is listed above.
When installed, turn key on and off 4-5 times to pressurize the system before you try to start engine. Once it is running, look and smell carefully for any sign of leaks.
