Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a Prado 2000 model 3.0 Diesel. Recently it took a few long swings before it started and if it did, it puffed a lot of smoke. Now it doesn't start.

Replace diesel filter and prime the hand pump until full. Then start.Check wires that are connected to the fuel pump. Check power supply to glow plugs including the glow plug relay.

SOURCE: The car's peformance has been poor, especially on picking from a stationary position (no power).

I would suggest to have the pump timing reset and probably have a diesel specialist to check the pump as well. It is very difficult to give extra help over the net as most of the things have been covered by the mechanic I supposed. But as per your description I think the pump may have not been timed properly or it may need overhauling as well.

SOURCE: I have a Nissan Almera

Solution #1 is not correct.. reason, why engine does not start when those codes are shown, is pump control unit (PCU), or electromagnetic valve. You should give PCU to fix (mostly it's broken transistor inside) or to change you current PCU to the new (need to be programed) or buy whole new VP44 PSG5 pump.
Sorry for my broken language :)

I have Toyota prado 2012 I was driving and the engine went off try to start it and goes off again, I realized it was smoking seriously not knowing there is diesel going into oil

Too much fuel makes a diesel increase RPM, not die.As long as the engine has compression the only way to kill a diesel is to stop the fuel supply.

My 2003 diesel prado gives off a heavy puff of white smoke smelling of diesel when I start it cold, the engine also have a uneven idle for the first few seconds.

sounds like injector is leaking letting fuel leak into a cyclinder the smoke is raw unburned fuel then it takes a minute or so to clear the cyclinder

My toyota landcruiser prado is a *** import i have had it in the uk for 4 years now ,recently i have been having problems with smoke from the exhaust and a screaming noise when using the air con ,when i...

This is an indication of the A/C compressor going out. The front seal is leaking compressor oil and is saturating the clutch causing the squeel you are refering to. When it is loading up the engine this could cause excessive smoke from the exhaust. First replace the A/C compressor and have the system recharged. Then let me know if the problem still exists for the smoking. These are really great trucks.

Car starts but revs for a few seconds with lots of black smoke and then cuts out have disconected exhaust from manifold but no change

Is this a diesel TDI PD ?? If so i had the same problem with one of these TDI engines and traced it to the crank sensor signal implausable. The revs would start increasing with no pressure on the throttle, lots of black smoke and then cut out. The crank sensor wiring was at fault in this case. The ECU didnt know where the crank position was in relation to the camshaft and was guessing when to inject the fuel. Hence the black smoke ! Hope this is of some use.

My kia sportage diesel is puffing blue smoke.

Nothing to fix friend. See, in diesel, when cold, there is an electric plunger on the throttle that speeds the idle a bit till warm up. Connected to that same wire is the cold start/temperature sensor. When cold/cool this sensor will excite the plunger to speed the idle, and put more fuel into the engine making the smoke you see, until warm up is reached and the sensor shuts down. You really don't have a repair needed friend.

Car wont start when engine is cool

sounds like a glow plug problem,if it starts o.k. when warm, but not when cold, does it smoke a lot when trying to start it cold,if so i would say your glow plugs are either burned out or theres no power to them when you turn on the key,do you see the glow plug light on the dash,it may light, but that doesn,t mean the glow plugs are getting power

2003 f250 won't start

Is this a small amount of white smoke or a lot of white smoke? If it is a lot of white smoke it could be a head gasket problem.

1. Do you have coolant in oil or vice versa?
2. Pull spark plugs and inspect for plugs wet with coolant.
3. Do a compression test and check for a low cylinder.

If you have issues in any of these points you will need to replace the head gaskets.
