Do you have a small propane torch? or a can or throttle body cleaner or anything similar? Spray the propane(Just the gas, do nit light it) or throttle body clean, slowly around the engine and if there is a vacuum leak the rpm will rise when the propane fumes or throttle body spray gets sucked in and you know it will be in that area. Anywhere from the front of the motor to the sides to all the way behind, it might not be a vacuum hose, could be an intake manifold leak. Smelling fuel when shutting off can be a different problem all together.

i believe its 4 1\2, so put in 4 1\2 and then start it -shut it off then wait for a few minutes then check it,then add a little at a time to fill up if needed,DO NOT OVER FILL IT,not even a little bit,the seals will eventually start leaking, and it will build up with carbon in the intake system.

I can't solve the problem for you, but I can definitely tell you that it is NOT the fuel filter. I just replaced mine, and it's still doing the same thing, a full day after replacing. Looks like we're in the same boat. I'm changing the spark plugs next. Maybe we can help each other out here. What's your next move?

I have 2005 Ford Taurus and the car idle is stuck on high?

Some of the older Tauruses had an interesting issue; the linkage cable from the accelerator somehow gets sticky and needs to be cleaned. There is a small piece of plastic covering the link, so take that off and try spraying the linkage with WD-40. It could be more serious, but I spent a small fortune to find this out, so you can try this first, then spend a small fortune if I'm wrong!!!!

What i need is a 1989 ford ranger 2.3l engine vacuum hose diagram?

Is it a vacuum hose? Find the open hole in the plenum (you should hear a pronounced hissing sound with the engine running). THAT is where the hose goes.

?what does '97 Ford T.Bird 4.6 dohc V8 engine manifold looks like?

That sounds like a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum lines. If it's a plastic intake, the fittings sometimes come loose or the bolts come loose and some even crack. a411465a-d08f-4079-a8ce-4e35db1c4995.jpg 3d76ea72-45b3-4ddf-92a7-3ce6abf36a9d.jpg 60749eaa-428f-4970-8c9b-eb5cf40089b3.jpgAGCO Automotive repair service page will explain a little and has some detailed pics.

My 98 Ford taurus se started stalling one hot day after coming back from the beach, frequently when I accelerate the car will not move but jolt into action after a few seconds...there is a slight hissing...

This sounds like a vacuum leak (this would make the car idle high and transmission to shift
roughly). Look for a cracked hose. Usually a short hose with a bend is the culprit.
It took several months to find one on a vehicle I owned as the hose was almost completely
hidden. hope this is helpful.

I have a 1992 ford taurus...it started running rough then finally wouldnt start... i have put a master air flow sensor and a map sensor in it....it still won't start some mornings...any idea's?

Check all the vacuum lines and hoses. Also check the intake manifold and gasket for vacuum leaks. When you have a leak it will make a hissing sound. Let me know and we can go from there

Engine light is on, hear a hissing sound of air, engine lope and cut off while idling. 2003 ford explorer V-8. A/T, 108,000 miles, runs great while driving.

Sounds like a vacuum hose has come off or has a hole in it. Check my "How To" for checking for a vacuum leak.

2002 altima idling too high check engine light on

The first and easiest thing you should do or have someone do, is check under the hood for a vacuum leak, possibly coming from a cracked or broken hose. Check and inspect all rubber hoses, including the large ribbed hose running to the throttle body (Engine air intake from the air filter box). You can hear a leak if it is loud enough and will sound like a hiss. Your engine is idling high because of a vacuum leak.

My 2000 taurus does not hold idle, even with engine at normal operatin temp. It started random and now is more frequent. Regards. G.

If it just dies, sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve. If it surges and runs rough, sounds like a vacuume leak, especially if it is the DOHC 3.0L engine, they have several vac hoses that go bad.

1992 ford taurus has high idle all the time

Hi idle with no "check engine" lite , indicates a vacumm leak. Check all hoses for cracking or disconnection. Sometimes with engine running, you may hear a "hissing" coming from somewhere under the hood. Good luck. Moe

Misfire code P0301 2000 Taurus

Hi Sue,

Chances are when making your hose and tstat repair, you probably bumped a vacuum line enough to either create a tiny crack or knock off a line. First, you can just check all of the vacuum lines that are near where you worked and then all of them using the emission and vacuum diagram/sticker located either on the underside of the hood or above the radiator. The vacuum lines all originate from the upper intake manifold, which is the big multi-tube looking large thing on top of the engine. Unfortunately, if the leak is a small crack or slightly loose connection, they can be hard to find. If no luck, try listening to the engine with it running for a hissing/sucking.sound. If you have long hair be careful. Still no luck, if you have carb or similar cleaner, maybe WD40, or starting fluid, spray it carefully and precisely around the engine listening for the engine sound to noticeably change. That will be at the point where you have a vac leak that will need fixing. An alternative method that I like is to take a small diameter hose around 3 foot long (a short piece of garden hose, heater hose, fish tank hose, etc.) and use it like a stethoscope to listen around to pinpoint a hard to hear and pinpoint leak.
