Gravity takes oil to the bottom of engine . check to see where oil leak starts .a fresh
oil leak will be wet and old leaks have dirt and are more grime.. driving at highway speeds will take oil to the back...I would start with valve cover gasket first.you can always clean engine and check in a week

Try purchasing some engine cleaner and get the engine as clean as possible with a pressure washer. This will make it easier to see where the oil is coming from. It could be as simple as a loose drain plug or it could be any number of gaskets or seals. First place to look is the valve covers, oil filter or oil pan gasket. Worst case scenario would be the rear main crankshaft seal leaking.

Toyota corolla oil leak

The fact that you are adding a quart of oil to your car doesn't mean that car have a leak, most of the time engines are leaking oil is noticeable, on the side of the engine block or black spot on parking lot. Engines also consume oil after certain amount of miles depending on models. I don't think your car acting up have anything to do with the quart of oil you are adding to your car once a month. Please specify what exactly is your car doing when you say; is acting up, so we can help you out to solve that issue.

Believe it or not, it is normal for these engines to use about a quart every 2000 even when they are essentially new. Note that I said, "use", not "burn". The combination of higher compression and operating temperatures causes oil to pass through the engine. You might notice your tail pipes have a good coating on the inside. I managed to slow the process by converting to Mobil 1 0W40. I get much better performance and I only use a quart every 3500-4000.

Engine ran out oil every 3 weeks

out? as in oil pan is empty or dips stick shows. ZERO oil?
weeks dont count.
1: miles only count , 1./3 quart (liter) per 3000 miles is good.
2:or drips on pavement.

btw i can do this on a new car, just driving way too fast i can drop oil level by 1/2 court in 1 week. about 500 miles.

tell how low the dip stick got in how many miles and speed you drive.
we have 85mph here and way faster on the autobahn.
no locating stated. here is USA< and dallas.

Hello, 1 quart in three thousand miles, great, awesome, wonderful don't worry about it. As long as you know it. This is normal for a lot of engines. For many Chrysler Motor Co. there engine would use a quart of oil in the first 500 miles and after that, none. Oil change, another quart in 500 miles.
I would drive that Chevy around the world. I wish you many hundreds of thousands of miles. GB..stewbison

Bought certified BMX 335i convertible and after only 3000 miles of driving the low oil light is on. Is this normal oil consumption or is there a problem?

Though I am not familiar with the 2007 model, on the e46s, I know that the low oil light comes on when you are down only about 1/2 quart. Does your model have a dip stick?
A half quart in 3000 miles is not cause for concern. Most of them burn a bit less than that, at least during the first 200k miles, but some burn more. It depends to some extent what kind of oil you are using. It will burn more Mobile1 than it will Castrol Syntec, for example.
I have an '04 330 that uses about a half quart in 7k miles between oil changes, and an '04 325 that goes through a quart every thousand miles. I am only a little concerned about the 325. I would not be at all concerned about a half quart in 3k miles.

Big oil puddles in drive under car. 1 1/2 quarts low between oil changes. Looked under car and oil is mostly on back part of engine. ?

You should get it up in a hoist and look at lower side of engine. Could be rear seal or something as simple as valve cover gasket leaking. It's probably a simple gasket that needs replacing but don't put it off, leaks don't fix themselves they only get worse.

It is normal to use over a quart of oil before oil change

My 1993 voyager is like that. It may burn some , it definitely leaks some , and it could be just sending some through the PCV valve. Oil leaks and burning oil causes pollution . If you can fix it with a new seal or a valve cover gasket it is easier than constantly checking your oil. Temperature, trailering, speed, outdoor temperature, and engine RPM all can be factors if you are losing oil. If your engine is a quart down, the engine oil consumption rate doubles or triples. In other words the lower the oil level the faster it disappears. High mile cars will drive for years as long as you add oil when it is needed (keep the oil level between the marks). Fix any obvious leaks. Then determine your oil change interval (3000 miles, 4000 miles, 5000 miles). I change between 4000 and 5000 miles. If i am a quart low at 3500 I add a quart. If I am a quart low at 4500 miles I just change the oil in the car. A good practice is to carry a quart of oil in your vehicle just in case you need it. It is far cheaper to add a quart when needed than to go to the dealer once to maybe fix a problem that they may not be able to find or fix. Older engines (even some newer ones) just use oil , especially in hotter climates. Fix the obvious and carry a quart.

2007 GMC Yukon using a quart of Oil every 2000 - 3000 miles

Sounds funny, I would take it to an indepened repair shop and have them check it out, we have many customer's with Yukon and have not heard of that, I have a GMC with over 315,000 miles and between oil changes, maybe a qts low, have it check else where.

Toyota tundera v6 ran for fifty miles 2 quarts low on engine oil! dave

Probably didn't hurt it, my 2002 was ran for 2000 miles 1 1/2 quarts low on oil due to dummies putting only 5 quarts of oil back in it after changing the oil. It takes 6 1/2 quarts. It didn't hurt it at all.
