Question about Suzuki VL 125 Intruder LC Motorcycles

I have had my suzuki 2 years and hardly had any probs i was riding home the other night and i smelt a burning smell next thing all the electrics cut out and aboout a mile further down the road the bik

I have had my suzuki 2 years and hardly had any probs i was riding home the other night and i smelt a burning smell next thing all the electrics cut out and aboout a mile further down the road the bike just rolled to a stop and the battery had completely drained, i couldnt find anything obviously wrong so charged the battery to see what would happen and the same thing happened again only this time when i pulled it up and parked it after it died i noticed that the overflow pipe was leaking fuel quite heavily, now it hasnt drained the tank but i am now really concerned over the burning smell and the fact that even when running the bike cannot keep the battery charged enough to make a ten min journey any ideas what could be the problem ?

Your regulator / rectifier is bad it is boiling the acid out of the battery from over charging it , i had the same thing happen on 2 bikes
a kz , and a gs lol

It all seems to be leading to fuel starvation. Have you checked the tank breather is not blocked which can be a small hole in the petrol cap or a tube from under the tank. It could also be a blocked fuel filter. There should be two. One inside the fuel tank under the petcock, another before the fuel pump. Here is the workshop manual where you can find all info you will ever need for this bike.

From your explanation it sure sounds electricals, but surprising to hve a total failure to the electricals and thn it reappears after 30seconds!
Best would be to go through the wiring especially frm the battery onwards, the fuse box .
Since it is totally disappearing it should be a fault to those main wires could be lose connections somewhere!.

There may not be an in-line fuel filter on the bike. Most bikes don't come with them. Yes, the fuel petcock has two screen filters on one pipe and they can get clogged up. Remove the tank then remove the petcock and clean it. The gas in the tank should be dumped into a clear plastic storage bin so that you can see if there is any water in the gas as well as rust and trash. Your bike is 15 years old and the inside of the tank may be rusty. If so, Google kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to

This will end the rust problem. Go ahead an install an in-line fuel filter. There is a drain plug on the lower left side of each carb. Drain each carb into a clear container and look for water and trash. You may need to clean the carbs but hold off to see if the other stuff fixes the problem.

Pull the float bowl caps off the carbs and then spray carb cleaner into the main jet and all other accessible ports on the carbs. Chances are there is a build up of water condensation in the carbs.

Have to check the voltage regulator for burned wires or yellowed connectors,, also looking over every wire on the bike you can get to would be a good idea,, something could just have rubbed thru the insulation on a wire resulting in a dead short,,, look carefully for the damaged wire,, It could easily be a voltage regulator
We just replaced the reg on a SV650 and that was the trouble,

Is my oven worth fixing?


Seven years is not a long time for a quality oven and replacements aren't cheap so the big question is do you have deep pockets and are you looking for an excuse to make a change?

The thermostat will need replacing and maybe the fan motor, maybe a circuit board.

I suggest you look through your local classified directory and make a few phone calls asking about the price of fixing things vs. replacing them.
Lots of people would opt for replacement because the downside of a repair is other things could go wrong over the next few years costing more money while a new replacement could have a warranty period of up to five years.

While riding my Suz GS500F (2009) home in the rain last night I started seeing smoke coming from the lower left side of the motorcycle. Stopped at a light and loads of smoke came up through the fairing....


I presume that you were riding it back from the dealer when you had the smoke problem ?? in that case one possible cause could be that when they serviced it they got some oil on the exhaust pipe and when the pipe got hot it burned it off. let me know if that helps or not. Alex.

Light doesn't turn on, nor does it heat up once I turn it on. First time I used it this winter it worked but smelled like it was burning and then stopped working?


sounds like it faulted and burned out some wiring i wouldn't use i would get it looked at to make sure all ok as it may now be elecrically dangerous, if that burning smell, smelt like rubber i'd say definatly electrical but without seening it to hard to say

Smelt burning smell in the morning stopped cooling


I suspect the start relay burnt on the compressor. Now the compressor can not turn on. You need to repalce the relay.

Do you smell anything burning. This happened to me and I cut it back on. It stayed on for 30 secs or so and did the same thing. After doing this 2-3 times, I smelled a burning. Being a member of the Fire Dept, I didn't want to see my buddy's coming to the house, so I unplugged it. The next day, I took it apart and there was a burnt resistor or something under neath the fan. I took it back and they gave me a new receiver, but I'm expecting the same with this one.
