New computers rarely have modems built in, you can tell by the existence of a RJ-11 (2 conductor) jack on the side or back to plug your phone line in. And also right click computer then properties then device manager. Then look for a modem under Network...
If you have a serial port, an older external modem might do the trick, But likely you have only USB ports and are chasing more trouble to go from USB to Serial to Modem.
A USB modem is probably expensive as well.

For the mouse, look at a second hand store for a USB mouse or borrow one and try that.

Make sure you have the mouse driver installed, the mouse driver for the trackpad, allows more functions and features from the trackpad. Like the one you want.

See the hp website, look under keyboard, mouse, input section.

As per the error message you had received, I beleive that the File System (Partition Table) in your Hard Drive is curropted because of which you are unable to store any data.

The only option available is to burn the requried data into DVDs and perform full recovery and reinstall the Operating System to factory default settings.

This will format the Hard Drive and will also recreate the File System (Partition Table).

vast posts here on black screens of deathh
the screen is 100% black and never once shows text or that HP logo. 100% dead black, then that is the screen back lamps dead
as most long ago did, go dead , just not yours.
called the CCFL lamps dead.
ok the battery out test1
the other check is the fan is the fan blowing, it must or the CPU overheats fast and (it shuts itself off, like magic (intel inside)
see slide show here for Laptop link packup causes.overheated

my guess is it is there, below... as all do every one at 20k hours.
see flash light test. there. on test one, do that.?
see test #1 (battery out, ac pack connected and working)

if the flash sight trick passes, (see data) ask how to fix that
or read the service manual at HP.

see the list of HP , with CCFL here. dv9000 is it.

if yes, ccfl dead

If you still have the recovery partition:
Restart your computer then look for the F key which controls your BIOS then look for the option "reload default setting" then follow the on-screen instructions.

If not, please let me know what version of windows you have installed, the type of recovery media?

I can't get you clearly, if you buy the product (win vista) then it should come with the DVD but if it's a crack version, you need to apply patch/install the crack so that it'll not prompt you again.. If you have problem with this, do let me know.. through my email.. Good luck..

You need to turn off Windows updates. For this go to the Control Panel--->Windows Updates and select Turn off windows updates. If the problem still there, take the backup of your documents and desktop in a mass storage or another drive of your computer and install a new copy of Windows and after finishing installation of Windows first turn off Windows Updates.
