SOURCE: We repalced the black ink cartridge but it wont print black

Most ink jet cartridges have "multiple" protectors to keep the ink from leaking or drying out and the electrical connectors from getting damaged before they are installed into the printer. You should be removing a plastic cap device for the ink, and typically, a piece of clear tape that protects some copper traces on the back of the cartridge. Make sure both are removed. If it still does not work take it back to who you bought it from and have them check to make sure there is ink in your new cartridge. Typically, you can shake it and hear a liquid sound. Good luck.

SOURCE: Change the black ink cartridge and now the black

Make sure the tape is off the cartridge, and make sure its seated into the slot. it might be necessary to dab a drop of isopropyl alcohol on the cartridge head to loosen any dried ink, or take it to any photo printing center (or some walgreens) store to test the cart. If it fails, take it back for a replacement cart.

SOURCE: Black ink wont print

Clean the head off where the black is with rubbing alcohol and a qtip. If it won't detect the black cartridge and you went into the printer settings and enabled the black to print as well as the color, then the printer sensor that senses new cartridges and amount of ink level is defective and, unless it is under warranty, it's not worth fixing.

- I have just changed the black ink and now it wont print so I have changed the black ink again and it still wont print anything black - any ideas

The black ink nozzle in the print head might be blocked. Print a test page with a huge black image. Like: just start word, create a square through "illustrations" and fill it completely with black. Print it once or twice and see if finally the black ink may come out.

Through printer properties (windows control panel) there might be additional cleaning options.

I dont have any coloured ink cartidges left and need to immediately print some forms in full black will be okay but i cannot change my colours to black as the ink holder stays on the far right of my epson...

To print in all black, you can change a setting through the computer to tell the printer to only use the black ink. This is better than putting black ink where the color ink normally would go as that would cause the shading to be wrong and potentially ruin the documents.
If you have enough black ink in the printer, before you finalize the printing process make sure you have black and white only selected.
This will allow you to print without getting access to the ink cartridge holders.
Good luck hope this helps.

Printer wont print black.already replaced with new ink but still wont print black

did you take the tape off the new cartridge and is the print head burned out for the black? if you installed the diagnostic's on it then run it and see what it says, otherwise expect the print head to be cooked, however it is possible to get a bad ink cartridge try tapping it on your finger and see if ink comes out if it does not then the ink cartridge is dried out or no good, about %15 of print cartridges are bad on just about any brand printer some more than others.
