Have you checked the circuit breaker on the disposal itself? In the bottom there's a little button that resets the circuit breaker. press it in and see if that works. If the disposal is still jammed you should hear a hum.

SOURCE: BADGER GARBAGE DISPOSAL just humms. does not work.

It sounds like the disposer has something jamming it. Try using the breaker wrench supplied with the disposer (or a suitable-size hex wrench) fitted into the socket on the bottom. Rock the wrench back and forth to see if you can loosen the jam. Another trick is to use a wooden rod (end of a broom handle, for example) to push on the blade to try dislodging the jam. Look inside with a flashlight to see if there is something that is easily missed. (I have found drink can tabs, coins and a shelf clip that way.)

It's also possible the motor starting capacitor inside the disposer or the motor itself is bad, in which case you would probably spend less on a new disposer than on repairing this one. But a jam is more likely.

Change the thermal fuse in the control and door switches. The thermal fuse is designed to fail if there is a problem with the switches.

SOURCE: Used reset button, the motor runs but the blades are not turning?

sound's like you have a problem with your drain pipe's. it is not normal for water to come back up.check the allen key bolt, located on the bottom of unit .insert allen wrench /key,and turn in a clock wise&counter clockwise motion to see if disposal is also might consider some drain opener before it get's worse

Reset button not working on kitchenaid garbage

Look for small pieces in the disposal... likely pits, glass, etc once these are removed press the reset. also check the breaker. Double breakers can be tripped but you can't tell to look at it. Just shut it off and turn it back on.

Garbage disposal

My checklist for garbage disposals:
(1) most disposals have a little red RESET switch on the bottom. Once the impeller will turn manually, press the reset button, and you may get back full operation.

(2) 120 Volt wall switch may have burned out. They're only rated for 100,000 operations before they burn out.
(3) If the impeller is difficult to turn, you may try to use an "flywheel wrench", which is just an offset Allen wrench that fits into the bottom of the motor, and can be used to turn the flywheel manually, freeing the impeller and allowing the reset to work.
(4) The circuit breaker in the breaker panel in the basement may have tripped, cutting power to the switch controlling the garbage disposal. If tripped, turn off the switch to the disposal and reset the breaker.
(5) Disposal motor may have died.

This How-To seems like a nice one:

The problem is not that you tripped the circuit breaker. Problem is that your disposer is jammed.
Over time, food particles may accumulate in the grind chamber and baffle. Here's what to do:
1. Place stopper in sink opening and fill sink halfway with warm water.
2. Mix 1/4 cup baking soda with water. Turn disposer on and remove stopper from sink at same time to wash away loose particles.
If that doesn't help, you have to release the disposer jam.
1. Turn off disposer and water.
2. insert one end of self-service wrenchette into center hole on bottom of disposer. (It's a funny looking slightly "S" curved tool.)
3. Reach into disposer with tongs and remove object(s). Allow disposer motor to cool for 3 - 5 minutes, then lightly push red reset button on disposer bottom. (It maybe indented so almost unoticeable.) If motor remains inoperative, check service panel for tripped circuit breaker or blown fuses.

The badger 5 has just stoped working

There are three possible things.
1) Circuit breaker tripped
2) Wall switch gone bad
3) Reset button tripped on disposal
Reset is located near where wire connects to disposal

Did you check the breaker? If the breaker is good, the reset button on the bottom is a tough one to get to klik, it has to klik , or it doesn't reset, sometimes you have to hold on to it for a while. Is there something inside the thing jamming it up? Does it hum? The only thing left to do is make sure it has power, and if so, then blame the unit. Hope this helps.

KA KAdette 250 - I hit the switch the other day and nothing happened. I checked the circuit breaker - ok. I also checked the small breaker button on the bottom of the disposal. It is at least 12-years old....

12 years is middle aged for an appliance, but the problem is probably one of the garbage disposal big three: a tripped circuit breaker, a tripped reset button, or a jammed disposer. With the breaker turned off, make sure the disposer's shaft rotates freely. On most disposers there's a hole in the bottom middle where you can insert an allen wrench that you're probably find under the sink and rotate the shaft manually to free jams. But, for the love of God, only do this with the breaker turned off and make sure you remove the wrench (or broom handle if you have to go from the top) from the disposer before turning it on. Make sure the reset is pushed down until it clicks if it's tripped, and, since circuit breakers get old and stick, you'll have to turn the breaker all the way off and back on to make sure it's not tripped. If the disposer hums but doesn't turn when you turn it on, check to see if it's jammed. If it turns freely but hums and doesn't start then the starter circuit on the motor is bad. If the breaker and reset button are ok and it doesn't even hum when you turn it on, you'd want to check the disposer to make sure it's getting power. You can find a little electrical reader at walmart for $5 that works like a geiger counter and will beep when it gets close to something that's receiving power. The switch may be worn out, but really the disposer's motor failing is probably the least likely thing. But please get a qualified electrician out there if you don't know what you're doing. There's a reason that it requires a license.
