Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer

Open Question

MAYTAG MAV6000AWW I replaced the thrust bearing. It is a little weird in that when twisted all the way it will not recoil and allow the brake to ingage. It seems to have a binding point. Also more importantly It seem that the agitator quit working and it wants to spin in all modes. Next the transmission is making a lot of racket, like a hard clicking sound. Any Advice would be appriciated.

SOURCE: Replacing maytag thrust bearing kit 12002213

yes you can do it yourself no special tools are need just a couple good flathead screwdrivers and a lot of patiance be sure to put all the new washers and bearing back on in the same order the old ones came off putting the C clip on can be a little tricky but take you time and it can be done you may hvw to use the flat head to pry on the trans. shaft to get the clip in the groove then use a pair of chanell locks or pliers to snap it on if you get a new style bearing it may not look like the one you take off and not have all he washers just snap the small plastic pice onto the bearing put it on the the pulley the most of the time just the thin washe then the C clip the dust cover put belt back on the test machine

SOURCE: Maytag MAV7650AWW spins during agitate cycle

If the tub spins during the agitate cycle, the the problem should be in the timer. It sounds like everything else is working properly. A new timer is fairly expensive, but your Atlantis is fairly new so it should be worth the money.

SOURCE: PAVT920AWW Noise in wash cycle no agitation

Your Belt still needs replacing or to be scuffed up with sand paper. If thes fails you need either new tub bearings or a transmission. either a 250-300.00 repair so tr the belt and rotate drain pump rotation while the belt is off

SOURCE: Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

My Maytag performa washer will not agitate or go into the spin cycle. It makes a loud noise instead

From what you're describing I suspect the thrust bearing needs replaced. The thrust bearing is what releases the brakes. You will not be able to rotate the basket manually with the brakes set. I recommend replacing the thrust bearing kit part number

The motor runs but will not spin out

You either have a bad transmission - worst case - or you have a bad thrust bearing. Remove the belt and rotate the drum pulley CCW. The pulley should push the thrust bearing upwards, releasing the brake, and engage the transmission. If it doesn't you have a bad thrust bearing. It comes as a set, pulley and bearing. It's a easy job. If it is engaging transmission and still no spin then your trans can be bad.

Maytag Performa

thinkin your installng a new thrust bearing kit?? new one is different(actually better not as many washers). Laying this unit on its back or even side will alleviate some of that tension your experiencing. My problem is always trying to fit the E-clip back on after installing the pulley. Turnin the pulley i beleive clockwise will engage the brake and give you a little more play in the shaft. i usually get that clip on slightly and then grab and squeeze on with pliers

Its possible that the machine is not reaching full speed during spin. Check to see if the belt is slipping and that the thrust bearing pulley turns freely. When in the spin cycle the thrust bearing compresses the brake directly above it. If this brake is hanging up even a little the machine cannot reach full speed. The diagram on the right shows the thrust bearing assy. and brake.754307c.gif

Washer not spinning

Sounds like the brake liner could be broken. When the machine starts to spin, the motor turns in the opposite direction to the wash cycle and causes the bowl to lift off the brake liner and the bowl then spins freely. Either the riser cam is worn/broken or the brake liner is broken. This is quite involved and you may have to call in a tech.

Maytag washer sav models

If you have the topload maytag as listed, It is possible for a transmission to have both symptoms, but it doesn't usually happen as you describe. If something came apart inside the clutch causing the shaft to pull up and keep the brake released, but also allowed the clutch to slip, this is possible.

I would suspect a brake or thrust bearing or both before a transmission. If you are able to turn the basket easily by hand, the brake is not applying for some reason. The thrust bearing will wear down so that it doesn't completely release the brake causing a slow spin. I find these two parts to cause more trouble than transmissions, but I do find bad transmissions occasionaly also.  Post back if you want to know how to check them.

Will not spin

Ap, start with the tub and basket, make sure there isn't anything caught in between preventing it from spinning. Im assuming you already checked the belt. Next would be heavy duty stuff like the thrust bearing and brake. The brake may not be releasing. You can check this by turning the pulley counter clockwise slowly and seeing if the transmission spins. If not, the thrust bearing and brake may be bad. There was a number of service flashes out on this model concerning the thrust bearing, transmission and seal kit, vibration in spin and snubber kit. These things may be covered under warranty. In the event it's your transmission, it has a 5 year warranty on it....Catriver..post back.
