Video Cameras - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

Solved - I had the same problem.

The original "Flip Video For PC" software that came preinstalled on my Flip worked fine. But after being nagged to "upgrade" to FlipShare, I experienced the same crash problem mentioned here. Even worse, the FlipShare installation nuked the original program files from the Flip!

In my case, I think my computer's processor did not meet the minimum system requirements of the newer FlipShare software. The original "Flip Video For PC" software requires a 2Ghz P4 or higher; the FlipShare software says it requires a dual-core 4Ghz or higher. So when the FlipShare software tries to load the ippvideodecoder.ax module on an under-powered processor, it just crashes. Bad design.

I bet that most of the people posting this same problem here have processors that are "borderline".

Anyway, here's how to get the original Flip Video software back and re-install it on your computer:

Disclaimer: I assume no responsibility if you screw up your Flip or lose your videos. I can only tell you this method worked for me.

1) Use Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs to uninstall FlipShare and 3vix.

2) Download "Flip Video For PC" v3.7 from here:
http://www.theflip.com/app/prius/37/update/

3) Follow the written instructions here for formatting your Flip and reinstalling the software:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYc8N3dmxhU

Important: this guy tells you how to back up any existing videos on your Flip BEFORE you format it.

After formatting, I had some initial trouble with the installation not finding my (empty) Flip. Here's a workaround: the installation creates a folder called "FlipVideo Updater Support Files", and within that a subfolder called "files_to_install". Copy the entire contents of that subfolder to the root of your Flip. Re-run the installation and it should now be recognized.

4) Bonus: once you've got the old software reinstalled and working, you may want to disable the annoying "Upgrade To FlipShare" nag screen that bugs you every time you run the software. Simply browse your Flip and delete the following file:

[drive letter]\System\VIEWER\PD\checkForUpdate.txt

No more nag screen!

I hope this info is helpful to those who experienced the same problem. Flip tech support people are absolutely clueless.

best,
JohnB

Same problem appears on another thread at fixya.com
http://www.fixya.com/support/t260350-tape_acceptance

villagidit posted a solution there that worked for me.

The same problem exists apparently on the ZR200 which is where villagidit found the solution.

Basically all it involves is thumping on the side opposite the display. I tried the thump once with no effect. I gave it two more thumps and the problem went away. Not really a solution. But it was satisfactory for me to be able to get the camcorder working long enough to transfer all my DV video onto DVDR..

Seems something comes loose in these Canon camcorders (presumably a connector of some sort.) There are 10 votes for this solution on the other thread as of 5/19/2008.

This may mean that it is not working, or even broken. Take it to your nearest repair facility and get their expert opinion.

Hello, Tariq -

Fixya.com, where you posted your question, does no repairs of any items. It is a website intended for only asking and answering questions on how to go about repairing things. You have only stated that your camera is damaged and not what you think is damaged.

I would direct you to an authorized Panasonic camera repair service in the area where you reside, but I have no idea where that is.

I suggest you use your favorite search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, etc.) and the following search phrase, using quotation marks as shown to identify camera repair businesses where you reside:
"Panasonic camera repair"

You can add you location information to the search phrase, if you wish:
Examples:
"Panasonic camera repair" "Sandusky, Ohio"
Or
"Panasonic camera repair" "Birmingham, England"
Or
"Panasonic camera repair" "Manila, Philippines"

Best wishes.

Try not recording as much on the disc - it may need a certain amount of free space to record finalising information.

It could be possible that the tape is in the wrong way or that the tape is the wrong size those are both reasons that it may not be closing

As long as you have a USB port and there is 4 AA or AAA batteries then you should be able to. USB is 5 volts DC and 4 batteries are 1.2 volts each and 4 equal 4.8 volts DC.
