Be sure the batteries are Alkaline or Lithium and not just conventional heavy duty batteries. You may also want to clean the battery contacts with a ink pen (not pencil) eraser to remove any oxidation that could prevent a good contact between the battery and the camera.

You have probably corrupted the card - cameras have limited internal software to read cards, and if the data is not in the expected format, the camera cannot read it. Also, by not setting write protect on the card before inserting it in the computer, the computer will have added files which will further affect the camera.
Your best bet is to copy the files to your computer, then reformat the card in the camera and treat it as a fresh one, only re-naming files once you have copied them to the computer. You will not be able to copy the files back to the card so they can be read by the camera no matter what you do.

The card can be read on the computer
.. but Can the card be written to on it.

The write protection is usually a little slide on the side of the card. Designed to keep you from erasing IMPORTANT files.

Not all cards have them. But alot still do.

I will add a photo.
