Hi Merlyn Rudge, you can do a test to see if your remote control is broadcasting
Take your cell phone, put it in camera position and point the emitting LED of the remote control towards the camera and press any key, if the LED turns on, the remote control is emitting
I hope you can solve the problem
Greetings Franco Dosil

If you have a book for it check how to do an automatic code search. Otherwise Goodle the model of your remote & download the pdf file, it's better to make sure the Tv is on before you do an automatic search. There are possibly 3 types of code searches...
If there are buttons on the Tv try those, if the remote is dodgy it won't come out of standby. If it's a remote only operational Tv then you may have to borrow a similar one to see if it comes out of standby, otherwise it's a power supply problem...
replace the batteries in the remote, then push a button next to an FM radio, you may hear a buzz, that tells you the remote is working, this test doesn't always work,by the way. Next, turn the TV off & unplug for 10 min
I had a 32" Coby that did the same thing, turned out to be a defective main board. The main board wasn't sending the 3.3v signal to wake up the power supply. In my case I sold the tv for parts because it wasn't cost effective to replace the main board. It sound like your main board
