2015 Polaris Sportsman ETX. I have to turn the key over repeatedly for it to start & as soon as I let off the key, it shuts off again. If I hold the key in the "crank" position the engine will stay on

I would say based on information that the ignition switch is faulty, worn, or broken and would need to be replaced. Just to double check , it should remain in the acc position and not go back, doubt it would be financially or otherwise attempt to do a repair.

Sounds like one of the wires on the loom might have come undone, just run through the loom, especially all the wires to the ignition. If that fails, looking at the model, could potentially be a CDI failure. Good luck

Based on information provided I would start with just checking the basics as far as servicing goes, starting with air filter, is it clean, and is there anything preventing it from breathing easily. Check the accelerator cabling, might be dry, stuck or mucky somewhere from pedal to carburetor that can cause similar problems. Check oil level of motor as well.. Hope this helps

The over RIDE button is not used for shifting. it is used to over RIDE the REV LIMETER while in reverse ( for applications such as plowing) shifting into 4wd while moving is safe on some vehicles, but can cause catastrophic damage on others. be ABSOLUTELY sure your vehicle is designed for SHIFT ON THE FLY . If you aren sure, then come to a complete stop befor shifting.

I have eh 1989 trail

I don't have a trial boss 250 but on most 2stroke engines you should never see the top of the piston through the intake port when the carb is removed as the piston doesn't go low enough, thats by design, its the exhaust side you need to look through to see the piston top(crown), if you remove the exhaust to have a look check the condition of the piston rings while there
