Polaris 2008 Sportsman 500 H.O - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
What all can cause gas to run out the carb overflow line.
There is a bunch of things including, Hole in float, Dirty gas has left deposits on the needle and doesn't allow a complete shutoff, A damaged needle or seat, If carburetor has been taken off the float setting could be off, gas breaking down leaving a deposit on the needle or seat. Usually can be cured with a good cleaning and a new needle and seat. Check float to be sure it doesn't have a hole in it. If using 10% ETHANOL. fuel the fuel can be damaging your carburetor. I have had it eat a hole in the bottom of one of my carburetors so it does happen. I do not use ethanol fuel in any of my 4x4's anymore. May be more but good cleaning is needed.

Polaris sportsman 500 HO shows hot check engin? what must i do
check your timing advance. It may be advanced a little too much. If that is okay, then make sure your spark plug is the proper one and not a sub. Most ATV's use DENSO plugs and these seem to work the best. (Having a spark with a higher heat range will cause the overheat condition). The other thing is your mixture... you may be running a tad rich.. lean it up 1/8 of a turn. Finally, remove the exhaust pipe and see if they is carbon build-up at the exhaust port... lean it over and remove all you can, careful not to allow any to fall into the engine. (Blocking the exhaust will cause a dramatic temperature increase.)

Polaris troubleshooting
Sounds like a carb issue...make sure you have fresh ,clean gas.You havent got water in your carb/tank have you? I would start by taking the carb apart and give it a really good clean.Check all jets and orifices.Another words, take apart anything in the carb that you can, clean and replace.

Why does the engine load up at higher rpms?
you might have a dirty carb.check the big jet in there as it might have a blockage.sounds like you have enough gas going through the small jet to start the quad and for slow speed but when you want to give it good power, it starts to bog down.do the carb thing first

2001 500 HO is stuck in High Forward gear
If the shocks are worn out, get off the machine and lift up on the back rack. This takes up the slop between the shifter box and the transmission, and usually allows me to shift. I also had an issue with the thin steel plate behind the shifter box. Got a crack in the top , so it was flexing, creating more slop. Welded it shut, good as new.
