Sounds like two diffrent problems ,but the leaking of the coolent could be radiator ,bad hose or thermostat .If the oil is leaking it might have a sensor so you dont blow the motor ..I hope this helps ..If any thing please call local Polaris dealer so no futher damage ..Have a great xmas !

SOURCE: 2005 Polaris 700 sportsman 4x4 gets warm, looses power?

My Sportsman runs bad when heated up, but if you add fuel it runs fine again. I had a pick up that had an internal fuel pump like our Sportsman's and it did the exact same thing. It turned out being the fuel pump was worn out due to a plugged fuel filter. Forcing the pump to fail prematurely. I found I had bad fuel in my Sportsman and am going to replace the filter and the fuel pump. I also checked my plugs, MAF sensor, and Air filter, they were fine.

SOURCE: overheating polaris sportsman 700

you probly need a new heat sensor, its located on the bottom right of your rad, i had the same problem with my 700 the fan only worked when it was already over heating, i cut the wires flush at the sensor drilled a hole above the key switch and mounted a toggle switch, no more over heating,

SOURCE: Service manual for a 2006 500 Polaris Sportsman HO

I have a 2006 Sportstman 500HO ATV, EFI. Sometimes it will run 100% correct, other times it will start, idle fine but then when giving it throttle will will start to surge almost like it's hitting a rev limited. Sometimes it will backfire and stall. I already replaced fuel filter, flushed the fuel lines and gave it fresh gas and installed a new spark plug, but no good. I also checked the throttle switch and it's not making contact to stall it. I download the service manaul and tested each sensor and they tested fine which is probablt why I get no check engine light.
This ATV is mainly used to plow snow in my driveway, no salt. It's used around my property but very lightly. It's still as clean as it was when I bought it and it doesn't have but about 40 hours on it.

1999 Polaris Sportsman 500. I have fuel leaking from the tank fitting that the hose to the fuel shutoff goes. When I try to tighten it, it leaks more. Any suggestions?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to a Polaris Category.

Normally, you would just drain the tank, remove the fitting and replace the gasket. I don't see a gasket though, unless it is just a standard O-ring. That is the way to do it though.

Can gas or water get in oil if four wheeler sits on end for a hour?

Being a 2012, I am sure it is fuel injected and not carbureted, so I am sure that there would be no fuel in there. I truly doubt that oil would be in there unless this crash was violent enough to crack a block or head. If it were mine, I would check the oil level, if good, start it and run to operating temperature. Then turn it off and let cool to cold, check oil level, as well as check coolant. If the coolant looks lime green(if it uses green coolant) and not chocolate milkshake brown, I would say you are good to go!

I have a 2009 Polaris Sportsman 500EFI 4 wheeler. Recently, the number 1200 started flashing under the speedo. What does this indicate?

that sounds like your clock. engine codes don't go that high.and if it was your clock you must of lost 12 volt power at some point.

Will a 2002 Polaris sportsman ho 500motor and all accessories fit onto a 2002 polaris 700 sportsman frame

They're not compatible - officially. May just depend on how willing you are to make it work. Either way - the 2002 Polaris Sportsman 700 shows as only being compatible with the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Sportsman 700 & 600 - both models both years. Now - they look pretty close, but if you cross check (Looks like Polaris did a mid-model swap or something). There are (2) frames listed for the 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500 -
First Option - built before 9/3/01 Part # 1013325-067
01 - 02 SPORTSMAN 400
01 - 02 SPORTSMAN 500
01 WORKER 500

SECOND OPTION/AFTER 9.3.01 1013729-067
- JUST THE 02 SPORTSMAN 500

I attached the link to the schematic for you to see. To do a cross reference, copy the part number instead of pressing it (clicking on the part # a lot of the times doesn't show you full compatiblity). Then on the top banner, click OEM Genuine Parts, Polaris, ATV - there will be a parts search bar on the right hand side - paste your part # there and click search. If there are group compatibilities that they've added over time you'll see more than one 'where used' - just click on each one if you have to, but you'll see all compatible models.

copy part number
go back to page one of OEM Polaris parts
paste in search box
click on 'where used' in red to the right of the listing. If more than one - notate each as you go - but you'll see everywhere it was used. I've got a frame from a 2000 Polaris Expedition 425 4x4 with swingarm attached - I'd sell basically for shipping cost on ebay - if you're close to North Florida and in the area - I'd give it to you for $50, FYI. Here's a link to the listing and pictures in there - looks like a copy of the sportsman. If you get to zooming in on both and this looks like a match let me know. And a lot of parts were interchangeable for years on top of years from some parts - check out my ebay store (It's not finished but a lot of parts are on their) subscribe as a follower - and I'll give you 30% off your first order as a Thank You. I price to sell and compete, by the way - free shipping on almost everything - and all you have to do is shop around on there to see where I stand. 17 South Industries, LLC - I could use some help just gettting the name out there and word of mouth. All the best - Good Luck

Four wheeler

You will have to get the cooling fan working before you look any further. It may be best to have a coolant system pressure test and a compression test done to eliminate engine fault also
