450 kodiak wiring diagram

I was pulling a small cart with the four wheeler and smoke started to billow out from under the seat. when I got off i saw a small flame that was coming from the rectifier. i was unable to save the harness and it melted off at the plug . what would cause it to do that.

SOURCE: Is there an idle screw on a 450 kodiak it started to idle to high and can't select gears

probably not an idle problem but a failing throttle cable jamming in the outer case and not letting the system back to idle position

Testimonial: "Thanks but throttle cable seems to be fine getting full travel both ways"

Yamaha 450 Kodiak battery not charging, new battery, volt meter not showing any voltage going to the battery

Hi Brian, get a digital volt meter and start the ATV measure the voltage at the battery or at the alternator it should read around 14 volts when charging, if it reads 12 volts the charging system is not working, check or a blown fuse or broken wire, if you can access the alternator directly measure at that point. It takes 14 volt output from the alternator to charge a 12 volt battery

How to remove a needle and seat out of a ymaha kodiak 400

Take the float bowl off the carb. Pull the pin that holds the float on. The needle is attached to the float. The needle just came out of the needle seat. The needle seat can now be pulled out. This is the fun part. Are you really sure it need replaced? If it is needing a good cleaning, take some Mother's aluminum polish and a cotton swab and put it in the seat and spin the heck out of it. It will polish up nice. Be sure to clean with carb cleaner to get any extra polish out before use.. reassemble.
