Yamaha Big Bear 400 is running rich, it runs good at high speed but loads up at idle. Not sure where the mixture screw is located on the carburetor? It's a Mikuni BSR33.

2002 Yamaha Kodiak 400 will not hold low idle.

get a colortune tool.it shows how your firing.read instructions that come with,so simple to tune carb in with.sounds like pilot out of adjustment.could also have a leak in ur carb boot or head.take a torch without lighting open valve with motor running run torch around gaskets and front of carb boot listen for change in motor.if it gets higher rev uve found a leak.

Aren't the floats on the 4 zinger non adjustable there is no tab to bend they seem to be fixed

Correct--Not adjustable. Replace the float needle valve with a new one--Yamaha OEM only. If the seat in the carb is dirty or rough, Clean with a Q tip & a little polishing compound like Comet.

Hey Paul,
I wish I could talk to you in person, I can tell you how to set it without know any specifications...(I have been doing this for over 40 years)..but.. it requires some tubing and dexterity.I would recommend calling Sudco and getting the right manual..Float level setting are carb specific and NOT mfg. brand specific..

remove the carb, then remove the float bowl. you will have to turn the carb up-side down and set your floats level. just bend the little metal tab to so.

My yamaha 250 4-wheeler runs great but will not idle when the choke is pushed back in to run position. When choke is half way engaged it will run fine. Which screw adjustment on carb would fix...

John replace the idle jet $5.00 at a Yam. dealer (don't try to clean it ) & make sure that the idle mixture brass screw on the bottom of the carb is set 3 1/2 turns out from lightly seated. (don't break the tip off)

First answer is correct...but.. WHY do you think it needs adjusting?? If the atv is not running right?... Start with a new or properly cleaned and oiled air filter, a new spark plug, ....if this doesn't help, get the carb professionally cleaned and set. Is the spark plug black, sooty looking?? If yes, you need the needle jet and jet needle replacd!! NO amount of adjusting will fix that!!

Idle screw on left or right. Airscrew should be near carb intake ,careful only brass, 1 1/2 turns out from full close will get you close.
