Why is my 2010 honda rancher 420 at hard to start warm and how do I fix it?
When riding at low speed for a while it does not start.
If I let it set for 1/2 hour it will start.
I also have a 2009 rancher that does the same thing.
but the electric shift stops working too.

Hey Bj,
Sounds like the throttle position sensor is going bad, take it to a professional and let them trouble shoot it.. it WILL be cheaper in the long run!!
That is a possibility, if it is fuel injected there is a minimum pressure required for it to run. A fule rail gauge is not very expensive and you can find fuel pump testing on Utube.
LOL.. Hey.. yea.. a lot of time, a 10mm wrench, a #2 Phillips head and a 3/16" flat blade screwdriver to pop out the black plugs... do this carefully and not damage them so you can reuse them. This is NOT a hard project.. just TIME consuming, using common sense!!
Oh Dude, this isn't an easy fix. It sounds like your shift pawls could be bent, it also could be that the shift shaft that the pawls slide on is bent, worst case, there is some transmission gear engagement teeth that are damaged.
