Replace spark plug (gap correctly),Drain all fuel, replace fuel filter, replenish tank with fresh fuel, do a thorough readjustment of the carb settings (last resort - remove and rebuild carb)

I HAVE A 97 POLARIS 500 SPORTSMAN. INSTALLED NEW CARBURETOR ,IDLES ROUGH AND WONT REV, BUT BACKFIRES WHEN I TRY.

Hi there,

Have you check the valves and the valve gaps?? Sometimes but not always having the wrong valve gaps can cause backfires. Have you also tried tweaking the carburetor to try and improve the idle??

Just replaced new gears and the stater in a 2005 polaris 90 sportsman,,revs up fine in neutral,,but once in gear loses power and want pull ,then dies if you keep trying,,starts right back up no problem

I know virtually nothing about a 2005 Polaris 90 Sportsman, but your problem sounds like it could be a fuel starvation problem. Check the fuel filter (assuming it has one!). Good luck!

Polaris Sportsman 90 it bogs down/stalls. new carb. it will rev up in neutral. however when you put it in gear bike will only run for a few minutes and then stall or quit running. will restart .

Check the Flywheel key. It should be locked under the pull cord, where the stator is located. I will be a small piece of metal that slides into the spline from the engine and the stator. If it is worn the stator will rotate off the spline and the timing will be off, she won't start and if she does will be really rough and backfire, sputter and have power loss.

STARTS UP IDLES BUT WONT REV UP ALREADY CLEANED CARB ANY OTHER SUG?

Just a couple of ideas:
- Make sure the air filter is clean.
- Check the mixture. If it's too rich it won't rev like it should
- Check the timing. If it's retarded it won't rev like it should.
