My 1993 500 polaris efi wont star until i take a positive wire and gruond it to the frame to activate the fuel pump then it will start and run until you shut it off

power to efi module? no, find where it stopped and reconnect.
yes, power out of efi module? no, replace efi module.
yes, open between efi and pump.

Yes. Easy to check power at both sides of fuse or check for power at pump. If you have power then it's the pump.

Probabaly has a fuel pump relay that is not working.

Only if it is an electric fuel pump... does the pump have wires attached... its doubtful that it is electric... the fuel pump is probably a vacuum operated pump (uses the vacuum created by the engine running).. Not that familiar with that particular model.. electrical fuel pumps on atv..etc.. are rare.. I have never seen one!!

Gary, Faulty fuel pump sending unit. Most of the forums I checked say this a big problem with Polaris, most say the pump and sending unit have to be bought as a assembly.

Sounds like the carb,has it been check after its test and tune ?

mine did the same thing & then it finaly quit running altogether...the gas gauge stoped showing in the display also. I pulled the old fuel pump out & replaced it with one out of a 97 ford areostar witch has an almost indentical pump & now the machine runs like new...and my gas gauge started showing again & I saved myself 500 bucks because the pump i used was gave to me...lol
