First thing, find out why you have 14 volts going to it. trace the wires back. test it at the switch. there shouldn't be 14 volts going any where. test other things to see what you got let me know

I'm in the UK and not familiar with your particular vehicle..
However, the front gearbox as you call it is probably a transfer unit/case. This transfer case takes power from your auto transmission and transfers it to the front wheels.
You can remove the front propshaft (drive shaft) from the transfer case/front differential and make your vehicle 2 wheel drive. This, supposedly, gives you better mpg.

like doing an auto --jack up vehicle remove wheel rotor and brakes to access the ball joint --they are pressed in --remove lock bolt separate from spindle remove locking c- clip and either buy borrow or rent a ball joint press and remove ball joint replace is in reverse
