SOURCE: We just got a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak. Idle is too low
yea if your sitting on it there should be a plastic screw on the carburetor that runs to the other side you can adjust it with your hand as it is big enough to turn by hand have it running and adjust it to your liking

Sounds like its not "un-choking" it self, that its running like its still choked like you wold at initial start up.
Disassemble it and see if u can pysically see the activation and deactivation of the choke when u apply them.
While u are at it, also make sure:
Gas is fresh?
MIx is right?
Plug is good?
Chain brake mechanism is released.?
Good luck.

Has the bike been stored for any long length of time?
old fuel in the carburetor will turn to a varnish like residue blocking the jets,or possibly water in the carburetor.
Testimonial: "The bike was not stored and was ridden regularly, but it still sounds like it could be the carburetor. Thanks for your insight."

I would follow the fuel line all the way check the filter it should be inline and check the pump as well i would say its one of them two.
SOURCE: Wont start without choke and will not idle. New
try uping your idle and leave choke open longer.
best of luck, safe riding
