If this code is on will it damage anything if not tended to quickly?

take it to a dealer and have the code removed. it obviously gave the code for a reason.
Those cars are notorious for engine problems unfortunately. The exhaust valves tend to warp from heat after around 200k miles. Therefore throwing the O2 codes. Best outcome and cost effective thing I can recommend is replacing the engine with a new or low mileage engine.
Testimonial: "Ok guys sorry for the long delay. I have figured out in the time i spent messing around that it was a couple of things that gave me trouble. _________________P0420 Code_____________________ 1. bank 1 o2 sensor was bad 2. there was a crack in the exhaust pipe _________Misfire or random misfire code_________ 3. I also had oil on the coil pack that eventually gave me the P0303 code. 4. Valve Cover was bad 5. Alternator failed 6. Spark tube seals are bad _____________Things Im still not sure of________ 7. Smoke from the tailpipe (once every 2 weeks) but just cleared itself up (??) 8. Oil soaked coil pack #4 (no malfunctions) not sure why there is oil there. 9. rattling at low rpms (could be a heat shield) 10. P0420 code still crops up. No performance related issues present (is it stuck in the system)"

I am laughing at some of these "fixes".. remove the carburetor, take it to the dealer, he will know what you need. There is a rebuild kit (or new plunger kit) for this pump.. you MIGHT be able to clean it and replace the o-ring (NOT WITH A BIGGER ONE) - but the correct one..I know this is a pain in the a$$.. let a professional repair/fix it instead of guessing..
