SOURCE: Have a 2001 yamaha 250 virago and it won't satrt,
You do have fuel in the tank? Pull fuel line from carburetor--turn fuel tap ON--fuel should run from line (into clean can or bottle). If none, the brass screen inside the tap body may be plugged. Remove screen and hold with pliers. Clean with carburetor cleaner from auto parts store. When you set choke, can you see anything happening? May have water in bottom of float bowl. Remove bowl to check (and clean).

Some models have a 'kill switch' if the sidestand is still out. So the contact, telling the bike that the sidestand is it, might be damaged.

Sounds like the carb diaphragm may have a pin hole in it.
SOURCE: My Yamaha 250cc BearTracker does not start when
No ether can damage an engine and they can become dependent on it. Alot of ATV's are hard to start when it gets cold. Is the battery charged if equepted with one. You will need to choke it and let it run till it is warm and push the choke in when it starts to run rough. If this doent help let me know how it act's when this happens.

Has the bike been stored for any long length of time?
old fuel in the carburetor will turn to a varnish like residue blocking the jets,or possibly water in the carburetor.
Testimonial: "The bike was not stored and was ridden regularly, but it still sounds like it could be the carburetor. Thanks for your insight."
