Question about Polaris 2005 Trail Blazer 250
The 20 seconds might be a clue. If we assume that the carb is 100% clean and adjusted correctly.... choke is not getting stuck partially on and air / fuel screw is adjusted correct? Then check your gas cap and fuel flow. If it is not venting properly it would probably starve in about 20 sec. Take the cap off and try it. If this is not the issue take the fuel line off and make sure you have good fuel flow. I would also also question the float if it passes these tests.

Have you checked the Crankcase seals? I have 2 Big Bosses with 250's. 1989 + 1992
Both were terrible at starting and idling....after much troubleshooting I finally changed the crankshaft seals. (Which btw looked fine from the outside!) machines can be Cold now and will start 2 or 3rd pull with the cord now. Idle perfectly.
Also the oil injection system stopped working intermittently. Machine would just quit.....crank and crank it forever. So I just started using 32/1 mix and unhooked the Oil Injection cable from the Throttle.

Yes you may need a carb kit. It is not good practice to by-pass the fuel filter. The orifice in the jet is very small.
But anyways, There Could still be a blockage inside the carb, a small leak at the manifold, or the jet is worn out.
Let me know how it goes.

Assuming everything is back toether properly and was not the problem the frst place, remove the exhaust pipe to expose the exhaust ports to ensure they are not carbon block. Also check the exhaust it self for a spark arrestor screen that could hve been carbon fouled and clogged. Cannot free flow because of the problems noted above, you will not be able to run a two-stroke engine reliably.
