Remove 3 - 4 screws on fender cover close to side marker light. Pull fender cover out a bit for you to use your other hand to reach side marker light. By twisting on one direction and here you go the light out. Replace new bulb and replace everything on reverse order.

check that the drain holes under the door next to the outer skin are clear . Check that the sealing plastic sheet has been replaced and glued properly to the door inside behind the door trim

why kind of smoke is it? sweet smelling smoke? bluish gray smoke? rotten egg smoke?

This could be caused by a variety of things.....but, coolant temperature is a significant input to the transmission control module for the overdrive gear engagement. If the transmission ECU determines the engine is not coming up to operating temperature, it will delay the engagement of the overdrive. There is also the possibility that the throttle position sensor has an issue as well....is the check engine lamp illuminated??? A scan of the engine control module and the trans module is in order....a good tech. will be able to discover the cause very quickly!

Yes....this does sound like a kinked or restricted vent pipe.

Did you mention this whilst still under warranty ?

Have you ever had any accident damage or repairs in this vicinity of the vehicle ?

I suggest you go back to your main dealer and try to get this rectified under warranty, as this is a potentially hazardous, and dangerous fire problem.

Due to the temptation not to fit the pump nozzle fully in to the tank spout, to speed up the filling procedure.
And possibly then a blow-back of fuel, over yourself, and then the fire risk.

Lexus normally have a very high standard to maintain, especially where safety is concerned.

Get an appointment with the service manager, and do not be fobbed off.

The 1999-2003 Lexus RX300 models have a common failure of the engine computer that causes the harsh shifting of the transmission. You need to get the computer (ECM - Engine Control Module) rebuilt or replaced before it causes permanent damage to the transmission. Even if the transmission is already ruined, the ECM will still need to be repaired. Most often, the transmission is fine though, and rebuilding the ECM will restore the smooth shifts that the Lexus should have. Its believed this is held by clips care age could break these clips as the plastic becomes brittel.Be best see your vacumm cleaner dealer and he may have the attachment to do the cleaning.Good luck.
