Opel Vectra - Popular Questions, Answers, Tips & Manuals
I drove thru floods in my 2003 vectra, will the computers be busted; how much $. Cheers
Your car would have to be completely submerged for water to get to the computers. Start with the alternator. Make sure it's clean inside and all the diodes are working. Check the engine oil for water. Will make the oil grey. Change it and the filter anyway. Check the rear differential for water. It will enter through the vent if the water was deep enough. Open the distributor and let it dry out
Car in limp mode
Many transmission and some engine sensors cause this. Have the codes read.
Vacuum at oil cap. Burning oil
There will be a valve to control the vacuum and the vale needs to be replaced , if it's like the Vauxhall it's built in to the rocker cover. Have a look at where the breather comes out of the rocker cover and in to the intake there should be a valve if some sort if not look at the rocker cover
Why is so ******* oil consumption?
Older motors do use more oil. The oil is leaking because the springs between the piston and the cylinder are a bit worn out. The cylinder and pistons also wear a bit. You could minimise the oil usage, when you let the motor give a revision. That will cost a lot. As long as you don't need to pour in more oil you should try to live with it. Don't buy expensive oil, because it can't become old in the motor.
