Flashing engine light is saying that you have a "mis-fire" you need to address. Usually this will be a bad spark plug wire or spark plug. Simple fix. You can do it yourself.

The cam sensor helps the computer determine when to fire the plugs and the injectors which will set the misfire code. Have a trusted mechanic check the cam sensor.

Depending on what engine you have, I know the 1.6 DOHC engine has the cam sensor right at the top front of the motor. You must make sure you have your timing belt serviced at the suggested intervals or you will have a large repair that you can't afford. The recommended service interval is 72,000 miles. If you do not have your belt changed at the service interval it will cost you upwards of 1,200 bucks to have it fixed after the valves are bent and need replacing.

It is located on the passenger side of the engine, close to the head. you will need to remobe the engine cover, then remove the hose going from Intake manifold to airbox as well as the airbox to free up some space. Then, take off the timing belt cover. this part is diffficult due to the many botls and limited space, but it can be done in about 20 minutes. your sensor is located just inbetween and below the two CAM gears.

There is a cabin air filter in the system, you should check it and clean it every 6 months. It is behind the glove box. There are stops on the glove box so it wont open all the way, remove those, they are rubber plugs or plastic clips. Let the glove box door hang and you should see the plenum. There is a slide in filter drawer that you pull out.

too much oil can cause the crankshaft or camshaft to drag which can cause the timing belt to slip.If you are lucky replace the timing belt and start it up. It will run badly and smoke a bit but will clear, hopefully nothing collided when the belt slipped.The timing belt is something that any competent home mechanic can change, it just takes time.Sorry to hear about another rip off dealer.
