There should be a fuelpump test port on the fuelrail. This will tell you if the system has pressure for the initial start or not.

check your fuses also youll be suprised. The alternator runs down the battery if its bad or it could be the starter and ect. A multimeter would be something you could use also to check battery and the wires.

Hi, please first open your hood and check if there's any type of fire or smoke coming out from the area close to where you heard the sound. If not, then it might be two materials rubbing between each other that are not supposed to be touching. Please work with a mobile mechanic to properly diagnose this issue. Thank you.

Solinoid or starter motor, clean and grease wires, no luck the solinoid is the cheapest to replace. The starter can be checked by placing it, live wire with screw on the live battery terminal and the body on the neg. good luck.

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to Ford Ranger category. Overdrive issues are well known on that model. Get it checked with a good scan tool computer. If the sticker has faded or fallen off, you will need to go under the dash on the passenger side and remove the kick panel to locate the PCM. The code should be on a sticker on the PCM harness. It is a 4 character code usually 3 letters and 1 number.

Not sure what pressure has to do with voltage. I would look to the voltage regulator for a voltage issue.
