Why does my manual trans refuse to go into 2nd from 1st when you first start out in the morning. After its warmed up it works fine when you upshift and downshift through those same gears.
(Ps... I just noticed your question was posted back in May, so cannot stand by the words "promise" or "assure" as I stated below with regard to my offered solution because it's been too long. However, I will leave the rest of my post as I originally posted it). // Your second gear synchronizer is getting ready to go. You can lengthen it's life and possibly even completely resolve the problem by draining the transmission, refilling with the proper type lubricant, and leaving room for a "slippage" additive. If the trans takes standard gear oil, your best best for an additive is "Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer." Make sure it is the original "Heavy Duty" brand. They also make a newer one called "Synthetic", but it is for engine oil, and it's just not for what you need it to do. And don't listen to any online opinions of this product. I can assure you, assuming your trans takes regular gear oil, if you add one full quart (meaning leave room for one full quart when replacing your transmission gear oil), your problem will vanish almost immediately. I cannot promise how long it will work, but if your problem currently goes away when your current old gear oil gets warm, then I can reasonably assure you this will work for now and _possibly_ many thousands of miles. I have used this product for your exact symptoms for over 30 years and it has _never_ let me down. Ps... If you are a "speed shifter", and/or you "wind out" your engine full speed between shifts, you need to stop doing that now. Change the gear oil as instructed above, and drive _normally_, and I can assure you this will work. (But only if you do it without any further delay). Sincerely, -- Gregg
