My drivers door will not close in cold weather
spray penetrating oil into door latch mechanism, all angles and holes, up and down and keep working door open and close. It is dry and gummed up. a good maintenance procedure for all doors, hinges, and especially tailgate mechanisms. once you have a poorly latched tailgate open going down the road, and loose your cargo, you will learn to notice when things are not latching properly!

Jeep patriot timing chain slipped is this a big job for mechanic to fix
no symptoms posted, no events stated.
no mention of chain noise before or now , at failure....
2.4L
here is the interference page on 2.4
2.4L DOHC Non-Interference (Valves may hit if camshafts turn out of time)
2.4L SOHC Interference
seems yours is listed as 2.4L DOHC,
this means that the engine is free wheeling on the DOHC
so long as one cam dont spin and the other is stopped.
or one cam slips time and out of time with the other cam.
and the valves crash..........
on all DOHC engines, i respect them. i do a cylinder leak down
test by hand, no craning the engine with the starter inviting said CRASH.
so if the cylinder leaks near TDC on the compression stroke
or if by hand turned over gently by hand spark plugs out I feel hitting
I STOP. and THINK then take action
what is action, i pull it down and look to see if the marks are OFF.
if off , i fix that then repeat the leak down test.
if that fails, the head must come off
its easy to make it worse, the key is dont/

Automatic - Does not engage when in Drive or reverse.
I'll answer for A/T auto tranny car, with 4wd.
RPM.
got a dash tachometer?
if yes this is easy.
you step on the throttle (right foot) and advance the RPM
to where.
stuck at 800? rpm
goes to 1500 to 2000 and shakes, (brakes iced up. and frozen)
goes to 3000 rpm or more, (tranny failure) or 4wd in neutral?
