grinding along the track could mean that one of the cables are worn out. Not sure if it is a replacement part, but you can find out at a Mercedes Parts dealer. to remove the sunroof, you will need to remove all the pillar panels in the interior (A, B and C pillars), after that you need to remove the roof panel in the interior. once you have done that you will have access to the sunroof.

If the "black part" you are talking about is the "trunk partition"(which should come up as a "fault" on the dash when you try and cycle the top) then there are several things to check. The partition itself should snap into the retracted position(forward), and back. If it doesn't there are two struts(also called air springs) that have lost their charge and are not holding the partition in place. It has to be held solidly in place to set the switch on the left side(driver side) in order for the top to go down. If it's at all floppy, it won't set that switch and the top won't cycle. I've found the hard way this is a common problem.
