not normally most mercs have a chain timing belt so dont need doing its only need replacing if its worn which in most cases you can here a rattle from the engine dont let any one tell you they need changing every so many thousand miles as this is rubbish mine has 176000 miles and still has originall chain hope this helps
Check the connector on side of trans, these are notorious for fluid seeping through the connector and going up harness and in to tcm, if tcm not contaminated replace connecter on trans then recheck... if the fluid is not contaminated it should cure the problem. if fluid is contaminated then it probably an internal problem.
Hope this helps.
most parts stores for foriegn cars will advise you on this, but in my experience the pump/reservoir assembly may have either a cap on it or it may use a reservoir mounted on the firewall or either side that looks like a slave cylinder reservoir. it should be marked somewhere for power steering only..this reservoir may have a cap thats removeable and the full line will be visible on the outside of it, with power steering fluid only, fill to line..in exrteme cases, there is a hose that comes up to a cap somewhere(usually these types of refill setups are rare because it confuses the owner)where the fluid gets added, I have seen so many different styles of refil setups, so it just depends on which is used by the manufacturer of the car..be careful not to mix fluids as this will not help your situation..brake fluid wont mix with power steering fluid so just be warned..
