hmm sounds like the trans needs a bit of work on done to it as this isnt normal for any trans to hang in first gear like that it seems like as if its having issues shifting in a timely manner due to low oil or pressure plates sticking inside the trans

Michael its a oil cooler it sounds like the gasket is blown just replace it no need to drain engine but u will get oil rfunning out put some thing under to catch oil
