on my 2004 pontiac i can turn the key to the on position and press the gas pedel 3 times quickly which results in clearing the change oil message and supposedly kind of resets the computer.

1. turn ignition to I
2. depress and hold trip button
3. turn ignition to II(while still holding trip button)
4. in about 5-7 seconds warning light(yellow triangle) begins to flash
5. release trip button WHEN yellow triangle is flashing(it flashes 5 times, if you wait for it to stop flashing, it will NOT reset), turn ignition off

i would get the alternator charge rate checked , use a voltmeter , engine running and put the neg and pos contacts to the neg and pos poles of the battery , this will give the charge rate , if over 14 volts then the alternator needs further diagnosis
