2006 dodge charger, gear shift won't shift into reverse, fuse look
It has the side-to-side shift (rather than the more natural forward-back movement) Instead of just bumping the stick back into place, you have to press it to the right and hold it there for a few seconds before going back to full-automatic...When cold, shifting takes much longer than it should have, with a noticeable delay when moving from Park to Drive, or from Drive to Reverse...Also check the clutch pedal adjustment, cable adjustment, cables, master, and slave.
2006 Dodge Charger won't go into reverse
Hi All. My friend figured out the problem. There is a piece in the shifter that was broken. It's what controls the shifter going in and out of gear. I couldn't get it in ANY gear at all (reverse being the first one you come to; it's an automatic). I found some GREAT forums that have instructions etc to fix it, including pictures, drawings, and wonderful links to where to buy just what I need. Billet.com also has the part I need, so I'm extremely happy. Dodge wanted $181 for the whole shift kit in order to fix this problem! Ridiculous. The part is a tiny little plastic piece that's probably worth $3! Billet sells the part in aluminum instead of crappy plastic for $49.99. Dodge says you can't buy the plastic piece by itself; only the whole shift kit. LOL. Yeah, right! Anyway, the problem is easily solved. According to workers that we spoke to at Dodge, this is a common problem... seems like a lot of people have had this happen. Wouldn't u think that they would recall this item?! Again, LOL, and yeah, right! Thanks to EVERYONE who helped me!
