My 2008 chevy cobalt sport has a cylinder 4

Switch the suspected coil with another cylinder and retest. Clear the codes and test drive, if the cyl. misfire code changes to the new location, it's the coil, if it doesn't, it could be a fuel injector problem, low compression problem, vacuum leak, etc

I own a 08 chevy cobalt the traction control light

Any dash light that comes on after the motor is running or your moving, is a vehicle fault & you check for codes, diagnose them, find a problem & resolve it We have been doing that for 35 years, nothing new there Trac Control is embedded into the ABS Braking System It needs to be fixed, so to speak, you have a problem

08 Cobalt starts and idles but the dash starts

There should be ground wires going to the transmission. Check these. loose connections at the bolts and bad wires. Just a note. these wires come from the engine control module, which controls all you are talking about.

Why would my odometer on my 2008 stop and the transmission stay engaged in low gear in drive?

It may be a bad speed sensor doing this. your best bet is to take it to a dealer and get it scanned for a problem. or call them, maybe they can tell you whats wrong with the car.

What would cause this problem

Still sounds like 'limb mode' to me, but that should trigger some engine-warning light on the dashboard (and definitely internal error codes). The dashboard-light could be broken ofcourse. Would suggest taking it to a dealer for OBD-diagnostics (i.e. reading the internal error codes), that should be a good start. Guessing what it could be: (MAF, O2) sensors, injectors, overheating (fan not spinning up when need ?), bad fuel, throttle-body, old fluids / oil, clogged fuel / air filters ...

Engine driveabitity

it's recalled, what , you dont watch TV?, (id dont either) but do read WSJ.com and GM has recalled massive cars. for bad ignition switch. (using insane heavy key chains is true cause, not GM, IMO) get it fixed for free, heck even other thinks related for free, as they dont want any lawsuits. related to ENGINE DIES> and AIR BAGS DIES> go get em.

With no codes what would make the engine lose power and cut out at times

do you mean it will shut off or just low power? it could be your cat converter cloging up or coming apart.if cel is not on you should still have it scanned. it could have a pending code that will solve your problem.
