Thats for your electronic throttle body..Ive fixed alot of them just by removing the filter assembley and carefully open the plates and spray some brake cleaner on a rag and wipe it out real good..They get slugde in them and if they stick just a little the computer will sometimes throw it into idle only..Just take your time and clean it real good..

Sounds like EGR Valve sticking in the open position.Take valve off and try cleaning it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner or replace it.

Alternator mght not be charging !Get it checked with a meter should be charging around 14volts when running.

The gas emission light coming on because the gas cap is worn out or the gas cap is not fitted properly.Its got loose.remove, clean the gas cap and reconnect.If still the same problem, then replace the gas capo.If still the same problem, then its advisable to get the car scanned.at autozone service center its absolutely free to get car scanned.They don't charge for scanning, only charge for parts replaced.--------as you mentioned that gas emission light comes on, this indicate there is error stored in your cars computer memory/.In scanning that error code will be retrieved, as per error code it will directly point towards the faulty part or sensor causing the gas emission light to come ON.----------- Most probably in scanning you will get any of the two possible codes:----

The code P0455 is for a gross leak from the EVAP (fuel vapor) system.

First have the code checked. Parts store can do it. If you don't post a symptom, We can't diagnose. The light can come on for 100's of reasons. some as simple as the gas cap is loose. Let me know. I will help. Randy

I don't have a solution for you, but I will tell you that Ford Explorers are known to have transmission issues, there are lots of websites that you can just google and find how widespread the issues are. It's sad. I had problems with my car going into gear from park and they replaced the gear shift lever. It works, but now...3 weeks later I am having problems with my ignition switch/key wont' turn. I think they two are related! :(

does it have a shift lock if so its normally dissengaged by pressing the brake pedal there should also be a release button on the shift lever or located under the consul there should be an acess hole if the switch on the brake pedal is faulty it will not allow u to shift out of park the shift lever can be the cause of the key not comming out if park possition is not selected properly

Check the battery connection, and make sure there is no corosion and make sure the connections are tight.
