1. BUY THE NEW PCV VALVE FROM THE DEALER. part #4648973AC (I paid $9.95 in the Detroit area). 2. PCV valve is located on top of 'rear' valve cover. There is a black rubber pipe connecting the PCV to the upper intake manifold. The rubber pipe is like an inverted 'U' shape. 3. To remove the rubber pipe, you will need to squeeze the band clamps. Remove the upper end first. You will then be able to rotate the lower end clockwise, if necessary, to get enough clearance to use pliers to squeeze the band clamp. Remove the pipe. 4. You should be able to see the small chrome pipe on the end of the PCV valve. However, the PCV valve is completely surrounded by a plastic collar/shroud, part of the plastic valve cover. So, the only part of the PCV that is accessible is the small chrome pipe. 5. THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO BY THE NEW PART FIRST. I needed to clamp onto the end of the PCV pipe with VISE-GRIPS. This will crush the end of the pipe. You will hold the vise grips in a horizontal fashion, towards your right, in your right hand. 6. Rocking the pipe, while carefully levering the vise grips on top of the plastic collar, you will walk the PCV valve up, and out. BE PATIENT. You do not want to crack the valve cover! 7. The rubber grommet should come out with the PCV metal valve. If not, you will need to pull it out (needle nose pliers?). 8. Install the new PCV valve. I used a film of white lithium spray to help the insertion. Note, there is a groove molded into the rubber grommet that must snap into place. I used a 5/8" deepwell socket as a 'pusher', to ease the PCV valve into place (just push, do not hammer). You should be able to feel it positively snap into place inside the plastic collar, otherwise it is not properly installed and will not seal. If properly installed, you will not be able to pull it out by hand. 9. Install the PCV rubber pipe. Slide the clamps towards the middle of the pipe, fit the pipe over PCVvalve. Be sure it is seated all the way to the bottom of the plastic collar. Squeeze the clamp and work down to the bottom of the pipe, then release. Repeat for the upper end of the pipe and spring clamp. 10. Have a cold one. You earned it.

how to adjust headlights on 2005 dodge grand

how to adjust headlights on 2005 dodge grand caravan

on each headlamp assembly, there will be either one or two plastic nuts that you can turn.

If you only have one nut on each, that will adjust the vertical aim of the headlights.

If you have two nuts on each, one will adjust the vertical and the other will adjust the horizontal.

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall (do this for highs beams and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same bulb, only do it for the lows)

If the headlights read VOR, then aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall. If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall.

On the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan the interior AC filter is located under the dash on the passenger side. You need to slide the cover forward and then pull down. The filter is longer than the distance between the floor and the unit, but it bends. Ensure when you replace it you only bend the amount you need to install or you could damage the filter and to seal between the housing and the filter.

I get codes p0700 and p0740 on a dodge grand

I get codes p0700 and p0740 on a dodge grand caravan. It drives like it suppose to. I was told to change the fluid and filter in the transmission and that would fix this. Is this true?

Answer

P 0700 = EATX (Electronic Automatic Transmission Communication) Controller DTC Present. = An automatic transmission input DTC has been set in the transmission controller.
P 0740 = Torque Converter Clutch. No RPM Drop at Lockup. = Relationship between engine speed and vehicle speed indicates no torque converter clutch engagement.

Yes the Fluid and Filter Change should take care of this. However, Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth Minivans have had alot of Transmission problems over the years. Make sure that whomever changes the Transmission Fluid that they use exactly what is specified. Also, do not let any Mechanic talk you into a Superflush of the Transmission. This procedure does not change the Filter.

Engine scan codes are P0442,

Engine scan codes are P0442, P0456 , can you please help me with these codes

P0442 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)
This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.

Causes: A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
Other small leak in EVAP system
Faulty vent o-ring seal

Possible Solutions: With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses

P0456 - Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) at different times performs various tests on the EVAP system. OBD II Enhanced EVAP systems are in place to keep fuel tank vapors from venting into the atmosphere, and instead purges them into the engine to be burned. Regular pressure tests are conducted by the PCM to monitor the sealed system for leaks. The PCM monitors the EVAP system pressure by watching the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor. When the sensor indicates a small leak in the EVAP system, this code is set.

Potential Symptoms: There will likely be no noticeable symptoms other than the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). This is because the EVAP system is a closed system and only controls fuel tank vapors, not engine management.

Causes: Usually this P0456 code is caused by an incorrect or faulty gas cap. Filling the fuel tank with the engine running could conceivable cause this code as well or if the cap wasn't properly tightened. Any of the following could also be the cause:
A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
The EVAP Canister may be leaking

Possible Solutions: First, using a scan tool activate the vent solenoid, sealing the system. Then monitor the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor. If the system is sealing properly, the number will stay consistent. If is isn't, the pressure sensor will show that as well. If the system slowly leaks, use a smoke machine and watch for smoke exiting the system at any EVAP component. Any where there is smoke exiting the system, that is the faulty component. Do not pressurize the EVAP system with air pressure. Doing so can damage the purge and vent solenoids in the system.

2005 grand caravan baterry light

2005 grand caravan baterry light came on and can eventually does not start. Is it the alternator or the battery

Posted by on

Answer

  • Most Helpful of 3 Answers

Hello,

What normally you want to do is always have your battery checked first. The way the charging system works is like in a circle. If your battery light came on, it is normally only a few issues it could be.

Number one is battery is either not good connection, or more some bad cells and is not holding proper charge. At almost any auto store, like shucks, auto zone, and these little buildings you see around that specialize in only selling of batteries and alternators, will check your battery to see if is good for FREE!!

Number two, is these same auto parts stores can also put a meter on the system and check to see if alternator is putting out the power to charge the battery, and again, can do this for FREE!!

Number three is, first check to make sure your belts that are around your alternator are tight and not loose or warn, or missing of course. And make sure the connections from your battery via alternator and starter are all tight.

Conclusion: The battery could be bad, if bad cells, or the terminals are corroded which means not getting good connection to charge the battery, so first double check that, but then have it tested and that is the easy fast way to find out if battery is poor. If that is the case, just replace battery. If battery is good, and belts and connections seem good, then most likely it will be the alternator. And that is something that is easy to replace and do yourself with minimal tools. I hope this helps, and i am sure this will solve the problem for you. Thanks Mike, from fixya,

Hi there:
DTC P0513 - Incorrect Immobillizer Key
This means that the key is not getting the right signal. Disconnect the battery wait five minutes and then reconnect the battery this should reset the system and allow the key to work. If not you may have to get a new key from the manufacture. Could be worn and need replacement.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
