Transmission keeps going into safe mode
When last was the oil changed ? Check if the oil is red ... if brown or black your oil is burnt and requires changing as soon as possible. Just don't go to Jiffy Lube.
Crank and cam censer
You need a scope or a graphing multi-meter to test these sensors. You need to be able to see the wave form pattern to determine if they are working properly. 2 wire sensors are AC signal generators and you should not be testing these unless you know what you are doing as they generate AC current. You can ohm test 2 wire sensors when they are disconnected. Not a reliable way make a positive diagnosis unless they are out of range. In range sensors can still be bad. 3 wire sensors are hall effect type sensors and produce a square wave form. They are not dangerous to test you just need the right equipment and knowledge.
Starting problem
Next time it is in the no start mode pull a plug and check for spark while cranking. You need to determine if it is a spark problem or fuel problem before you can go any further
Door not closing
with the door open, look at the latch mechanism.. it is usually a two finger item or a one finger item that hooks on the stud or heavy bar mounted on the body door facing..these fingers must be in alignment in order for the door to close..while working the door release try to reset thes fingers by opening them up by hand as wide as they will go..some are spring loaded and may pop back to preset position.. now if the door has been"sprung" it will need readjusted to fit the body of the car..(was there an accident with the car or did a gust of wind pull the door open?)..this issue can be addressed by a body shop...good luck..

The "brake lining" means your brake pads( on one axle) have worn to its service minimums and will need to be replaced soon. Have your brakes serviced. continued operation can cause brake rotors to become damaged from metal to metal contact.
The incorrect fuel gauge reading could be caused by several causes, but most likely a worn out fuel level sending unit.

With all the problems you've listed it sounds like bad eng. gourds. BMW have bundles of brown wires all over the car for ground points and it sounds like you have a handful of loose or corroded connections. Personally, I'd have BMW or a specialty shop look at it and repair it for you. It can be hair-pulling crazy tracing electrical faults and it's easier for specialist to trachea it down.
1991 bmw 520i transmission goes into 'safe' mode

"
Transmission locks in "limp" mode - 3rd gear so you can "limp" home or to your nearest dealer."
"Things to check before even contemplating a transmission overhaul:
Check electrics - Alternator and battery.
Replace DME Relay and Fuel Pump Relay - not expensive.
Remove disassemble, clean and reassemble gear selector switch - If it looks beyond saving, replace ($200)
Service the transmission ($130 from a specialist) and check/replace transmission speed sensor ($90)"
Changed front brake lining wear sensor now i have
the sensor has nothing to do with the brakes other than turnig on the brake warning. i suspect you changed the brake pads also.take wheels off and recheck. if you opened a brake bleeder then air may be in system, bleed brakes. a poor machine job on the rotors will cause no grab also
WHAT THE MEANING OF S
If you're talking about the "S" next to the gear selector for the automatic transmission, it stands for "Sport." Most BMWs with automatics had selections for Sport, Economy, and Winter.
