Looking at a wiring diagram it look's like it's a possiblity . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb
Test the electrical circuit's using a DVOM - digital volt meter .
GM vehicles from 2003 to 2006 had instrument cluster problems were gauges showed wrong data , indicating overheating , wrong speed or no speed , low or no oil pressure etc.... Taking to a qualified repair shop that has a professional scanner that can view coolant temp. data to the PCM an from the PCM to the instrument cluster , rather buying parts the vehicle doesn't need . An trying to guess the problem instead of diagnose the problem . Your vehicle may not even be overheating ,if your just going by the temp gauge.
sounds like its being starved. check the fuel line and filter. also the fuel pump. could be the pump wnem it gets warmed up not giving pressure or the filter is blocked. same for the air filter. could also be too much air is in the mix broken vacuum line or gasket on manifold.. if any hissing sounds can be herd with engine running that is the sound of leaking air into engine. some times you cannot hear it or see it, you will need to spray carb cleaner over different areas if the engine sound changes or cuts out itt were the leak is.
Have fuel pressure checked. Check for spark when it won't re-start by using a tool designed to check spark or hold ignition wire barely away from module , while someone tries to start engine in short bursts. Try not to make contact with vehicle besides this hand and keep clear of moving engine parts. Best to use rubber glove there is a chance you may be shocked.
air fuel mix is wrong, its a jumping code meaning its misfiring on all cylinders, broken valve spring would only do one cylinder, could be the timing is out or its being starved of fuel or air. or you have a vacuum leak or manifold leaking. can also be a clogged egr. . and also a clogged fuel filter, also induction flush can do more damage than good. if its not done properly the loose particles can clog up in the small veins in the engine. in away just moves a none problem oil problem to a motion problem.

Don't even think about doing this job without
a very decent set of FLARE-NUT wrenches...
(In my day we called the "tubing wrenches")...
Like: 5 Pc Metric Double End Flare Nut Wrench Set
I believe your fittings are SAE (not METRIC)...!!
