Why does my 1995 z71 turn off when I put it in
More than likely the automatic idle speed control valve is dirty along with the throttle valve, clean them as outlined below.
To correct this problem Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professional.
Have 1995 gmc sierra.
ive found that when you do any coolant service to these trucks they get air bound. start the truck, let the temperature get up to 120, and with a rag crack open the radiator cap, but dont remove all the way...safety first. theis will draw the coolant in and get rid of the air bound.it had me confused for awhile also... not sure if this helps...or too late

After getting my 95 GMC Sierra 1500 5.7L V-8 back
I had an 89 Chevy Silverado with a high idle problem, A lot of money later and a lawsuit against a repair shop that said they fixed it and they didn't caused early engine failure and they wind up paying for a new engine. Long story short, I found out the main cause was I had to replace the throttle body gasket because it was bad causing more air intake and the on board computer tried to compensate for the air by adding more fuel therefore, high idle. I hope this helped.

Do you have a service engine light on? If so the first thing to do would be to check for what codes may be stored.
You can also check for vacuum leaks. A good place for a leak is the TB base gasket. Those start to leak and give a fast idle.
As for the late shifts, just about all you can do is check fluid level. The shifts are computer controled. 93+ trucks have the 4L60E. Not even a TV cable to check adjustment on.
Fix the fast idle and the late shifts issue may go away.
'95 sierra 2500. not heating up. replaced thermostat .
check and see if the heater valve is opening. it should be on one of the heater hoses. If it is open make sure that all the air is out of the engine. check and see if both sides of the radiator are the same temp. They should both be the same. If it was working before you changed the stat, then it could be a bad stat
1995 GMC pickup. Cold AC will blow through all
good work, the clicking noise you hear is the blend door trying to move. this door is what controls the temp. the most common reason is the actuator motor is bad but sometimes the door hinge breaks, this hinge slides into actuator and is used to move the door. you will need to locate it on the heater box by locating the noise and then remove the actuator and see if the hinge is broken, i will try to enclose some picture to help you. good day, hope this helps.
Light on dash came on
All your saying, is that the shop you went to, has no reference
material or data base, to even know what to check on your truck
If you have the factory manuals from Helm.com, you could possibly
figure it out
I won't guess, it is an obd1 system,pre 1996, so it can't be all
that hard
All you can do, is start to research for a shop in your area, that
that is good at everything. I would ask around for a couple weeks,
and then build a relationship for years to come.
