Check to make sure your body grounds are good at all points. Particularly from the battery to the body. If ground is good to the engine for starting it, and it runs, but the ground wire from battery to body is disconnected or dirty/corroded, then that would be your problem. There's not much as far as ground between motor and body because of rubber engine and transmission mounts. Try a jumper cable from ground to body at the clean metal of maybe the bumper.
